I bought my last car purely on colour (it was yellow). I test drove a silver one, and discounted it purely on the fact it was silver and went for the yellow one, which was exactly the same model. Enjoy your new car/windowed vanStart Date: 27/11/2010

Ooooo, very shallow and girly but we like. I too would have to choose the black one for all of the reasons that you suggest. It looks beautiful, I am a little green over here. So when do you pick it up and have you done the girlie thing of planning your first trip out in it? If not get your thinking cap on because you have to have a plan in place for the day you pick it up.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Luckystepho your Marathon des Sables sounds disasterous. Missing two days and then doing extra distance on the days you did get to do just wouldn't be the same although I can see the blisters being much smaller. I'd be so disapointed though.[/QUOTE]
It was awful as we were convinced it was going to be cancelled completely... it's daft cos I completed it, got the medal and t-shirt but it still feels like unfinished business...0 -
I'm collecting it on Friday which means I have four days to dispose of everything that needs to go to the tip which I've been avoiding taking for months and generally doing anything and everything humanly possible to use up half a tank of go-go juice. Darn these anti-syphon fuel tanks. The alternative is to venture underneath and disconnect a pipe joint in order to reduce the amount of fuel in it but knowing how old the pipes are I wouldn't guarantee being able to put it back together again. Sounds daft but since I'm only getting £250 for the entire car I'm not leaving it with 20 quids worth of fuel in it. Besides which there are lots of manky dirty things which I haven't previously taken to the tip on the basis of the amount of damage they're likely to do to the interior and the amount of fuel they'll consume in the process. Just need it to stop raining long enough to do it.
Got totally and utterly drenched yesterday. Combination of rain on my glasses and puddles on my scope meant I was shooting with a very distorted view. Quite how I managed to achieve my best score ever is way beyond me. Got home and lit the fire in an attempt to dry out DD1s hiking boots and waterproofs to pack this morning. Will need to order logs very soon because we haven't got many left from last winter and have only aquired a few over the summer. Seems everyone and his dog is retrofitting fossil fueled stoves.
Anyhoo as far as my first journey goes that'll be to school to collect DD1 from her trip direct from collecting it. If I'm lucky I'll also be able to detour via the ParcelForce depot to collect yesterdays bargantastic genuine dog guard for less than 10% of the VW price including P&P. Hopefully that will confine muddy hounds to the rear and convinve the DDs not to lob backs over the back. Of course OH is also planning on customising it with built in something or other and an actual spare wheel as opposed to the bottle of liquid jelly that they ingeneously supply instead. Can't see that being much cop inthe event of a blow out or a sliced tyre. Will need to trawl around the scrap yards in the hopes of finding a space saver the same size rahter than hoiking an actual tyre around.
Plans for today involve much laundry, unless it continues persistantly pouring in which case I'll be stuck with baskets of smelly damp stuff. Also need to return to Dunelm Mill to purchse further sheets as their extra deep ones do actually fit the DDs new mattresses unlike the normal sized ones which we currently own. Mind you the existing ones are v. manky and the elastic is slowly dying, helped along on its journey by being firmly wedged around mattresses several inches thicker than they were made to fit. Tis all money I could do without spending at the mo. though.
Was expecting OH to be departing for sunnier climates at the end of the week but haven't heard any more about it from his boss. Also getting conflicting stories from his co-worker whose wife is at deaths door but who (the wife) has returned to work fulltime whilst hes popping tranquilisers and sleeping pills and isn't fit to be driving let alone doing anything else. Having to pick up the piecs and rectify his mistakes is adding to the stress levels there especially on days when there are only two people in and one is a walking liability. Meanwhile OHs boss is pretending everything is hunky dory which is winding the guys at the coal face up a treat.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
DD1 has departed. Meanwhile I have 5 minutes to wait until I can harvest something or other and hang the washing out. DD2 has kindly left me a list of duties to be performed at specific times. If anyone else happens to be a Frontierville fan DD2 would like new neighbours in order to complete her next challenge. Kids.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Whinging at Tesco about the clothing promotion has resulted in a £5 gift voucher. Frustrating that I had to whinge in the first place but at least they've coughed up. Coiuldn't face going back to the store to return the clothes only to buy them again with a voucher.
Fingers crossed the Halifax are as quick to respond.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Firstly thank y'all. Cryptic messages reading Moooooo have been sent to Frontierville players. Many thanks! Arrived home to find her unbearably excited. She'd got married and bought a tree house. OH now thinks we're totally and utterly bonkers.
Spent most of yesterday doing houseworky things. Got three loads of laundry dry and most of the ginormous pile segregated by owner which DD1 helpfully dumped in the doorway of the relevant rooms for puppy to roll on.
More excitement was had when I wandered into the kitchen and stood on a vole. Wondered what all the barking was. Apparently kitten had killed it but wasn't sure what to do next so brought it home where puppy did her excited waggy tail leaping forwards and backwards in an attempt to play but the vole didn't want to and then I spoilt the whole game by standing on it shortly followed by the puppy standing on it. One well flatened vole was then scraped off the kitchen floor and the floor very thoroughly mopped.
Noticed the elderly hairball has one very waxy ear. Have cleaned it with doggy ear cleaner but will need to keep an eye on it just in case its the start of an infection. She doesn't seem to be at all bothered by it so its possible shes just got some grit in it.
DD2 has planned her perfect sister free week so shes off to the park with OH straight from school. Other requests include an icecream from an ice cream van man which is a novelty as we rarely see one. Hoping there will be one at the park otherwise I'm going to end up phoning the depot to find out where the vans will be at what time so that they happen upon one at some point this week. Think thats the most expensive request on there.
Have a couple of bits and pieces sorted for the tip so will aim to fill the car first thing and drop that off so as not to delay it any further. Will also purchase chook feed in a vague attempt at being organised. Also need some inspirational ideas for birthday pressies as I'm down to four weeks to find something for DD1 which means my parents will phone in the v. near future expecting helpful suggestions of some sort. Her list to date reads a riding whip, Just Dance 2 (which hasn't been released) and a duvet cover.
Have scratched and banked a tenner. The influx of cash seems to be running at a steady trickle whilst the flood gates to my wallet are wide open and cash is disappearing far too rapidly for my liking. My current frugal plans involve not going anywhere or doing anything that is not entirely essential or that involves money until I've completely rejigged my outgoings. Winter is almost the most unpredictable time of the year because the amount of coal we use varies so much. We can go from zero to £60 a week without any trouble depending on the weather and our shift patterns. Got the annual electrickery statment. The direct debit has gone up by 50p a month. Hopefully running two airers to dry clothes will reduce our tumble drier usage this winter which should mean that figure is too high rather than too low. Only time will tell.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
A mere three weeks after DD2s new bed arrived I've finally remebered to dispose of the headboard and a couple of dozen bricks which constituted half a fireplace which has been alnguishing in the front garden for a mere two years or so. Thinking about it it may even have been 3 years or so.... not that I've managed to fill the cracks in the plaster yet. I will get around to it eventually.
DD2 was up incredibly early and ready for school with an hour to spare. Perhaps this is why poopascooping up after the occupants of a ficticious zoo has been added to the bottom of my to do list.
Off to hang out the washing before tackling the washing up.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
