The funeral was a few days ago. It was an uplifting occasion attended by many of Ed's friends from several continents which was a testament to her international influence.
No-one here will be surprised to learn that she was just as helpful to her friends in the real world as she was to her contacts in the virtual world.
With representatives attending from both MSE and TMF, it was also an opportunity for her offline friends to appreciate her online life - and vice versa.
Everyone agreed that she was feisty in both environments!
She was a remarkable woman, leaving Australia and arriving in England penniless, jobless and friendless to pursue her career, on the grounds that the English journalist community was just ever so slightly less sexist than its Oz equivalent - which was not saying much in the early 1970s. I also learned for the first time that she was an orphan.
The story I most enjoyed was how Ed in the early 1970s, still an unemployed woman, used her skills to persuade a bank manager to give her an unprecedented overdraft . Down the line both parties benefited, but I wonder if the gentleman concerned had difficulty explaining himself in the first instance to his superiors.
For Ed, barriers (social, economic, ethnic, national, gender and political) were obstacles to be broken, and break them she did.
Her last wish was that her friends raise a glass of bubbly and continue to enjoy their lives as she had always done.0 -
Very sorry to hear this news, my thoughts are with EdInvestor's family and friends.
She very kindly gave me some advice on pensions a while ago.
She was a true star of the forum.US housing: it's not a bubble

Hi folks,
Having discussed this with BabyBoomer I think its time to unstick this thread and take it off the top of the board.
