So having decided to up to the states at the end of this year, it just dawned on me i have just renewed my Orange contract for another 18 months........

Is there any suggestions or am i just going to have to keep paying it even if not in the country anymore?

If you are asking 'Can I get out of my contract?" then the answer is no.

Well if you can't get out of it you could send the phone back as a gesture of good will, that may go someway to reducing the costs.

Otherwise......pay or not to pay and if you're never coming back then what are they going to do?

If you bought direct from Orange and not a third party deal, suggest you go into the local Orange shop, they seem much more reasonable face to face in a crowded shop, than they do on the line to customer services.

    Can't think why ;)

PS. Compared to OH's phone with 3, I've found Orange very reasonable. Also you'll probably change bank accounts etc when you go, so for how long can they hound you, if they can't find you? they should know when to stop flogging a dead horse.

Not wanting to sound nasty but if you can afford to emigrate then surely paying off the contract you entered into legitimatly shouldn't be an issue?

I would advise you strongly against just upping sticks and not honouring the contract. You may think right now that you will never want to return to the UK but you never know. Why take a risk over what, £20-30 a month?

gosh- what a presumptive post!! there many possible reasons why one might emigrate without being loaded! Job offer, family........ And what makes you think that emigrating is expensive, other than the flight out of here?

There was no offence meant in my original post. :)

I stand by my comment however that you have entered a contract fair and square and Orange are under no obligation to cancel that contract unless they break the terms and conditions.

thats ok- i didn't really take offense- it just really interested me how and why you would jump to that conclusion..... I am not saying that if would feel hard done by or that orange are under obligation to do anything- i signed it so the obligation is all on me- I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or has been in this situation, or if there is a ''done thing'' like sell the contract on and if there were how one would go about it.......or if its even legal.... will try the going into Orange and having a chat first as they have always been great......
