I thought the washing powder bath cleaning tip said to use biological, as the enzymes help to lift the grim off the sides of the bath... Haven't got the book in front of me though, I'd have to go and check 'my bookshelf' (otherwise known as Reading Central Library!)0

hey, RE cleaning grout and tiles....
on how clean is your house they thoroughly cleaned the tiles and grout, then put clear car wax over. this required a LOT of scrubbing to get it polished up but meant that both the tiles and grout were sealed from nasty mould/limescale etc
took me a day (with several t breaks LOL) to do it around my bath/shower, but well worth it!Lightbulb moment: July 2006
Total debt: £39,678.01 July 2006  Total Debt: £19k March 2007

A little science seems appropriate!
Bleach ( chlorine from hypochlorite with kill bacteria and " bleach stains"). Calcium deposits from hard water need acid and perhaps elbow grease to shift them ( phosphoric probably better than hydrochloric acid which dissolves metals etc. Phosphoric acid usually found in commercial cleaners) Thats why Coke works, but the brown caramel stain then needs bleach.
NEVER MIX BLEACHING AGENTS WITH ACID AS THIS GENERATES LARGE VOLUMES OF CHLORINE GAS WHICH WILL POISON YOU!
Lastly why get paranoid about loo stains as the next DEPOSIT will return the Status Quo ??0 -
:j Have constant problem with old porcelain vessel, but this very morning dropped one W5 WC Tab (box of 16 x 25g) from the good old Lidl range. After half an hour's fizzing nearly all gone, just had to use the pumice stone for remainder ....0

Saw one last week in a store on a local retail park (In Store I think it's called) and it was £29-99. There was a continuous loop video running near it extoling the virtues of it and showing all the things in the house that you could clean with it. I don't recall any scenes concerning the item currently under discussion though.0

I also live in a softwater area and have a septic tank, so have to be V careful as to what goes down. Good old fashioned Soda crystals / Oxyclean are fine but need to be dissolved in boiling water to activate. Oxyclean paste also worked on my grout. Another safe acid is citric and gets shot of those brown stains in soft water, so Tescos own lemon juice is your best bet.... smells better than vinegar as well......,0
