I think the word "team player" changed sometime in the last 10 years, it definitely now seems to mean "watches Eastenders, reads Heat magazine, spends 3 hours/day on Facebook". In my day being a team player meant you'd do anything asked of you and help anybody out and be patient/explain things to anybody that needed something, in order to all pull together to get the job done. You'd be proactive in knowing what needed to be done and flag up where/when things could be done better, or were wrong, so everybody benefitted from a better result.

I am one of the old-fashioned types of team-players, not the modern sort :)

    Same here PN.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Just going through 6000 emails in an email account I set up to join a local group ... and there were a couple of caravans to rent in there, from 2 months ago, so I replied anyway, to see if they're still for rent. They're about £400/month + bills, which is considerably cheaper than a 1-bed flat. And you get parking/outdoor space with a caravan - and nobody clomping over your head :)

    I expect they're gone though.

'Risk' has been around some time. I remember playing it when I was about 12....

I bought Pictionary tonight. Never played it before but always wanted to as a Christmas family game, and this thread was the reminder, whilst I was sat at my computer, to buy it, instead of always forgetting.

We played RISK as kids too. I've also got it on my PDA as a computer game to sometimes kill time with. I used to really enjoy RISK, but, imo, it's too much based on luck of the dice throw, that swing the other decisions you make yourself, to gain world domination with your military forces.

Also since reading the 2nd book in the Red Dwarf series (Red Dwarf: Better Than Life) I can't think of the game RISK without thinking of Arnold Rimmer. Rimmer and Lister's minds are trapped in the in the full sensory computer game "Better Than Life". Once you've entered the game, it hides the fact you ever entered it, and you fully believe the computer world is real. There are no pixels.. it all looks real. The game allows your inner feelings and fantasies to come true. Rimmer becomes a successful billionaire, 3rd richest man on earth.. but eventually Rimmer and Lister collide/meet in the game, with Lister trying to convince Rimmer they are trapped in Better Than Life.
Lister stood up and pointed across the pool, his voice raised an octive in incredulity. 'Who the hell are they?'

    Rimmer looked around.

Lister was waving his arms excitedly. 'The guys under the parasol."

'Napolean Bonaparte, Julius Caesar and General Patton.'

'And what are they doing here?'
'It's a bit hush-hush at the moment. I'm not really at liberty to say.'
    'Un-hush-hush-it"

Rimmer mulled it over. Well, it would be public knowledge in a week or so. Couldn't do any harm. He leaned over conspiratorially. 'Rimmer Corporation Worldwide plc have developed a Time Machine. I've been playing around with it for a few months, inviting a famous people from different eras in Time to pep up a few dinner parties.'

Lister was looking at him in a strange way.

'What's wrong with that?' Rimmer protested. 'You don't think that's believable?'

'No, I don't. I think you just wanted to meet these people so your imagination had to cook up a nearly credible explanation to bring them here.'

'Nonsense!' said Rimmer, but without conviction. Could it be true? Could he have really fantasised the invention of a Time Machine just so he could bring back Caesar, Bonaparte and Patton - the three greatest generals in history - simply in order to beat them at 'RISK', the strategic war game for ages fifteen and over?

Never played pictionary - will have to enquire with friends if anyone has it.

I see what you say about Risk & the dice. It can be quite easy to come to the completely erroneous conclusion that the dice "have it in for you". But at the same time, isn't it a bit like life? In that the dice (or other circs outside of your control) impact on the best laid plans?

Ah, red dwarf. I remember Patrick Stewart watching the pilot on bbc2. He actually reached for the phone during the first 5-10 mins, wanting to allege that the beeb had plagiarised star trek. Whilst dialling, one of the characters cracked a funny, & he laughed, realised it was a comedy & put the phone down.:D

I was officially cold last night. Walking home from work, the wind was going right through my coat.

Time to get the big winter coats out.

Also, my proper winter gloves will be needed next week.
