This morning, for the first time, I saw two deer. I hope one of them is her.

With our weirdo neighbour at the end of the land also being the local poacher, I don't expect to see too many deer! ;)

    Not that I'm grumbling.

Pests like pigeons, rabbits, squirrels and foxes generally give us a wide berth here in the garden, even though they are present close by. There's little separating the field from 'our' patch. We had a sparrow hawk on the lawn this week though, and the buzzard calls to have a look at the hens, but they are all too large now! :D

Must get some electric wires around the run before the clocks change. Even if Mr Fox can't get at the chooks, it will be a pain if he starts having a go at our new fencing.

Middle sons birthday today...can't believe he is 14!

He has opted to open his presents at my parents later this afternoon, so only cards have been opened so far but he has had one request for me, I have to make my yorkshire puddings to with dinner today! It has been ages since I have done that (since my second oven died on me), so we will see how they turn out.

The last few nights I have been adventurous, I made sweet and sour chicken from scratch on Friday and pork curry from scratch last night, the first time I have ever made curry (I don't like spicy food), both turned out well and the boys passed them to be as good as nanny makes, not bad when you can't taste test them yourself......I had a home made lamb stew instead but cheated with the dumplings and bought a mix.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You are a very naughty boy chucky.

carolt, if you've got wireless at home and chucky suggests doing anything involving the F2 key, step away from the keyboard...

    Really?

And I thanked him for his help and all...

What should it have done in terms of !!!!!!ing up my computer?

Have to say, gullible person that I am (not realising that chucky, or anyone else, would veer into the Nice People thread purely to !!!!!! up someine's computer), I did exactly as he said, and it did...nothing. :)

We do have wireless and it appears to be working identically to how it was before.

Agreed, though, that is very naughty, chucky, and frankly beyond funny. I rely on my computer for work and your attempt at humour could have cost me my job.

    Really, really, not funny.

I cannot believe I am reading this!!

Dumplings are: suet + double the weight of self raising flour, pinch of salt, water.

So, a box of dumpling mix only contains suet + flour.

The way I do it is I buy a 250g box of suet and a 500g bag of self raising flour. Tip them both into a tupperware box, with a sprinkling of salt. Mix/stir/shake it up. Then, to make dumplings, you just spoon out however much you need and add water. As many, or few, dumplings as you need, on demand.

In fact, you don't even need suet. You can make dumplings just by using margarine and flour, say 2oz marg to 4oz SR flour.

    Really ... it's that simple.

Thanks PN...to be honest, by the time I had done the curry and prep for the stew, I was beyond pain and still would have cheated.

Maybe next time I won't take so much on in the same day (it was a busy day yesterday) and will be able to make my own.

We make ours with matzah meal, an egg, bit of oil. The idea is for them to come out light and fluffy, but still holding together when you stick them in the soup. I gather that there are dozens of recipes.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Actually I think they taste nicer made with margarine rather than suet.

[ETA I have just noticed that despite many (sometimes lengthy) contibutions to the weighty debate about house prices and the economy over the last couple of years, my 1000th MSE post is a dozen words about about dumplings.]

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Aldi and even Netto have a BOGOF for "sense of humour in bottle" at the moment... it probably will do you some good.

while you're their stop being such a drama queen - it shut down your browser, nothing else...
