Sorry to read that..I am a total ga ga with my animals and when a cat of ours got run over 2 years back, I felt real pain.

We only have 2 cats now and have decided not to replace them when they either die of old age or get run over as I can't bear the feeling of loss. It's so silly, but we have lost so many cats to roads it has finally beaten me. I really feel how you feel. I am now at the stage where I don't want more pets as I can't bear the loss if they get ill or hurt.

Stupid Ginger (the rescue cat who still has issues after...I lose track....10 years?) sit's in the middle of the bluddy road washing himself. It's more dangerous as it's so quiet but some plonka then drives down it 60mph.
I tell him off (sad I know) but does he listen? Nope..goes out the front and saunters really slowly across the road....stops to have a yowl at 'Ginger and White' who lives across the road (not a babyboomer cat) and I just dread the day a car nips along and hits him.

Dear Daphne (who lives in the house with Palais de Versailles design references) has become his second home and she is besotted with him.....she doesn't know we move away in July.

I've got two cats, one a rescue cat who will still try to go through my bin for food even though her food is sat on a plate just 3 feet away from it....she knows it's there because if you take it away to wash the bowl, she reacts as if she has been starved and gets frantic looking for it.

The other cat we have had from a kitten and is completely stupid but also suffers from severe double hip dysplasia (thank goodness I had the foresight to take out life of illness insurance cover!), with one side operated on and the other side waiting for an op which is now looking unlikely as the operated side is not strong enough to take the weight. The silly thing actually likes his anti inflammatory medicine and will put his paw over my hand to stop me taking away the little pippette thing I use to squirt it in his mouth! He even sits there with his mouth open, ready and waiting for it :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Very sorry to hear about the doggie LIR

I've always suspected that all ginges are a good few cat treats short of a packet, certainly out were, but the upside seemed to be that they were "Nice Guys" ;)

He's very beautiful and was 3 days from being casseroled in an RSPCA rescue cage. I might use him as an avatar again.:)
But, who used the saying in their sig that cats have servants, dogs have masters? It;s soooo true. I reckon he's move into the Palais de Versailles wannabe house tomo if I didn't pander to his every whim.:o

So sorry to hear, lir. Dogs are family. I still miss mine, even though it's more than 2 years now. :(
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

O man I am and thought it was only me...

Down here, when it warms up a bit, we get the wind and rain instead. Just as bad.
