I would confuse your children. Sunday was the first time ever I turned down a trip to the DIY chain. :o

Carolt, apart from the (deep breath) bedroom, desk and coffee table tops, the utility room and the study (which is a room I forgot we haven't unpacked AT ALL) I'm please to report house is good. That sounds better to me than it must do anyone reading it. :D:o:o

Dog got bathed (twice) and other dog goes to a friend tomorrow to be cleaned, so tomorrow is most certainly dog bed washing day. They also now have sofas to sleep on ...dog-dog no longer comes to bed with me :(..so all those cushion covers (under layers of vet bed and decorators cloths) can also be washed tomorrow while I bicarb and hoover their sofas. There is meant to be a break in the rain tomorrow for drying things :) That means I also must clean the washing machine tomorrow (I miss having an animal washing machine ...my washing machine actually is the dogs' washing machine from my mother's house :rotfl:). I also really want to spend sometime in the garden tomorrow. I have two tiny borders dug over. One is the start of my ''white garden'' and one is a nursery bed for random non-white flowering gifts. I doubt tomorrow will dry out enough for the grass (which is almost a relief, that,s a long job)

I'm going to face coffee table top tonight and at least shuffle about the desk top.

How's the book I asked for going, lir?

Reading your posts I'm reminded of why I want to read it - you have a special 'voice', come at life from a slightly different, wonderfully calm angle compared to the rest of us - and I know your book could bring joy to many.

Sorry if that sounds odd - just you have a touch of the inspired genius about you - reminds me of Gerald Durrell, The Provincial Lady etc.

Plus I think your life is more unusual than you imagine - though presumably it seems quite ordinary to you. ;)

PC's been playing up today, very slow Internet speeds, then another tiresome XP update. I hate the way the automatically downloaded updates then force my PC into the slow lane so I have to reboot it, whether that's convenient or not.

And another thing ... went to sign up with an rss service to try out - and there was no "sign up" at all. Just a bunch of 8 services I could connect to their service with... e.g. signin with your Facebook. So, I selected that one, and it said it was about to share all my information and everything, so I clicked to close it and changed my mind. I just want a good old-fashioned "sign up" box, where I type in my name/email etc, then wait for an email activation to arrive.... that way I can keep my multiple-identities separate. I now have about 3 writing names and 3 twitters and 2 facebooks ... and it's becoming a headache thinking how I should connect/tweet/share between them when I am unexpectedly asked to do so.

Income's consistently healthy most of the time too. Healthy can be defined as "I think I'll make £1k this month". Which to most of you guys is probably laughably tiny.

I'd like to get out of here, but renting's so damned expensive. It'd take 100% of my income on an average month just to pay the basic bills/rent. So I'm still in limbo.

I don't think I'm in the right place, but I don't know where to go.

;) Funnily enough I just begged a windows package for this computer! I've been keeping notes in longhand. It all has a tendency to get a bit maudlin though around the move: moving from the tip of a hill to the bottom of a valley was a little traumatic. The house on the hill is for sale now too.

Gerald Durrell was one of my childhood heroes. As a child moving a lot I used to think of our condos as being humble versions of the daffodil yellow villa etc. I've never been as interested in bugs though. Gerald might not be to literature what Laurence was, but TBH there is no doubt who my favourite of the two is.

My life is VERY ordinary ..........nowadays.

I made a call about fostering today and was told to get 12 months fresh experience. They actually told me the Brownies was a good place, but TBH Brownies doesn't appeal as much as perhaps it should. I thought I might start by sussing out local primary school to see what volunteering opportunities there are for non-parents (though the experience has to span age ranges, as we are open to taking children of any age: ATM I'm particularly drawn to teens, or young mothers). I know primary schools often need people who'll chip in for reading etc, does any one know if secondary schools need the same?

Seeing any jobs to apply for these days or is everything still a bit dry? You got the big car didn't you, instead of the motorhome? 1k is most certainly NOT laughably tiny IMO. I think anything earned is far from laughable. (£40 quid a week minus insurances here, so you can giggle at me ;))

Not looked to be honest. Had the occasional agency call, changed my life to attend interviews, which take about an hour on the phone with the agency, then about 4 hours on the day to attend .... never to hear again. Waste of time.

I got the big car, yes, it's been paid for by now from my "rent free" position. Yes, I don't pay rent where I am.

Well, £1000/month as disposable income'd be a lot.... but £1000/month when you're looking at whether to rent a pokey flat or not + bills means it's touch and go if that amount would pay for said pokey flat + bills.

That's why I want to increase my income, using multiple income streams of a residual nature.

However, if I had my own space, I'd be more able to write effectively as it's hard to "appear normal" when I want to stay up all night writing, then doze all day. Night writing's best.

Also, space to set things up right - get a bigger monitor - organise my paperwork and a research desk and a whiteboard.

So that's why, every day, I check all the houses for sale - in case the one off perfect one comes up. But I just think it doesn't exist down here unless I can magic up another £100k, which of course can't be done unless I win the lottery.

The ones I can afford, that are almost right - are in the wrong place.
The ones that are better placed for national transport - don't have the views/price tag combination that fits.

Prices are still coming down though ... but I don't think "the right house" is in this county at all.

Sue, I find that there's much less ironing to do by taking clothes out, sticking them straight on hangers and drying. Works better on lower spin speeds though, 1200 and higher I find a bit too high as clothes are too dry by then. 900 about right.

You've not met my mum....she would still iron them! :D
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Despite yours being a beautiful county and my love for extreme rurality the distance thing is a big issue. TBH I'd sooner go northwards because of transport links, personally. That said despite still being rural the proximity to....noise, lights etc, I find hard here....I can see street lights in one direction :( but being able to get out and do stuff without arranging for dog sitters when planning stuff is very useful.

I want a good sea view. I don't want: a sea glimpse from the corner of the tiny bedroom window, if the leaves aren't on the trees this month and if it's not misty. I want to be sitting in the garden/conservatory, glance up and see things moving in/on the water. I have to be able to see water, I have to be able to see movement.

I'd like to be able to step outside and walk into that view, not lock the house up, get the car up and drive 3 miles and find a parking space to be able to step into that view.

There are places where the view/closeness are possible - but they're in the wrong places for "stuff" and transport.

I want the moon on a stick. I'm sure Dorset might be the answer. Been looking at Devon a lot for the past year too, nothing there either that meets the criteria.

There was a flat at auction the other month in Devon... and if it'd been a 1-bed house in the same position, at the same price, I'd have really thought about it even though it wasn't near the right transport links, just because the beach was literally 30 yards in front of the sofa.

We had a nearby focus diy close a year ago - it was between wickes and homebase. They are redeveloping the unit and I was really hoping it would be a B&Q as tat would keep the others more price competitive but am gutted to see it will be a Dunelm Mill - especially as the Mrs is quite partial to their overpriced tat :(
