Good to have you back LIR, and in full flow'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A fair-weather friend!! Oh my.
I certainly do.
I've also won the battle against the majority of the downstairs of the house this morning..just one room left (and the desk surfaces) No point in being outside in rain when plenty to do inside.0 -

LONDON(SHARECAST) - Retail sales jumped for the third month in a row in September and at their fastest pace in over six years, as fashionable Brits stocked up on new clothes and shoes.

Thanks, lir and lemonjelly, for your useful tips - I hadn't thought of the counting before, but can see that quantifying tasks would make what one had achieved much clearer.
Plus, obviously, I liked the cream cake one! Except that...I did just go out and buy myself a v yummy cream cake (it's pack of 2 choux buns, if anyone's interested - yes, I am that greedy), but...I was about it to eat it now. And then I read your post. I am now hovering on the edge, wondering whether to give in to temptation and just eat it now, as I was orginally going to, or hold off, and use it as a 'reward'.
Am starving. Shall eat reduced pasta salad I also bought, instead, and save the cake for when I've written urgent revision of a paper that needs to be done asap and I have been putting off and putting off...
NB Please tell me off if I even think about posting on here before I've finished.0 -
Please tell me off if I even think about posting on here before I've finished.
OK, Carol, but please will you tell me off if I even think about posting on here before I have fed my kids?
Then I think I will copy lir's example - one post, put load of washing in, one post, empty dishwasher, one post, make tomorrow's lunchboxes etc.
It's been a long day. We had staff meeting after school today (more interesting and more useful than I expected it to be) and then I had a chat with the person who'd had my kids for tea. So we didn't even get in through the door until 7.30.
ETA Kids now fed, washing removed from machine and hung up, and a new load just ready to go in. Now to run bath for kids and make them go and use it!
My tip for hanging washing on airers is to use clothes pegs rather than draping. You get better circulation of the air that way. It does mean you need the airer(s) to be a bit higher up than just on the floor so that there's plenty of space for stuff to hang below. I have one over the bath, and one that has one end on the floor but the other end up on a windowsill. I almost never iron anything. I used to iron late-nearly-ex's shirts, but since he left I don't have those any more, and I certainly don't have time for ironing. My mostly cotton jersey tops and the kids' school polo shirts are not too bad if tumbled for 10min on cool and then shaken out and hung up immediately.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Yippee! :j:j:j
Got my revisions done at last - took much longer than expected - combination of usual interruptions and my tired brain, but is now sent off. Loads of work to do on other papers, but shall settle into that once kids off bright and early tomorrow morning.
I think lemonjelly's reward system helped keep me going - I really wanted that cake, but pride forbade me to have it. But even more than that, telling you lot I wasn't going to pop in here till I'd finished worked wonders - I knew I couldn't sneak in when my brain started to turn to pulp, because someone might spot me and hold up my lack of self-discipline to public ridicule
. So I kept plugging away.
It is a good feeling, lemon was right. I don't even particularly fancy the cake now (bit tired) but feel duty bound to eat it anyway on the grounds it will only be all soggy tomorrow.
I think this group encouragement is a good idea - Lydia, did you feed your kids etc too? Anyone else want to publicly pledge their chores, so we can act as the face of your conscience?0 -

NO, I'd have to admit that our bedroom looks worse than a teenagers ATM. Piles of (clean) laundry I have no where to put away, surfaces so cluttered I can't see whats what ATM. The cats knocked over my bedside table last night , and I simply pushed it back up and put the radio and light back on it, leaving the couple of dozen bottles of snake oil I should be using in the fight against visual ageing back underneath.
The sheets are clean (and ironed, lol) and I hoover any clear bits of floor, but thats it ATM.
Maybe next week:o0 -

Glad to help.
I think there is a double bonus, in that the cake tastes nicer, owing to the deferred gratification, & the knowledge that you have earned it. Plus it removes the alleged guilt from the pleasure, as you have earned it.
And you can review the progress made, which is another nice sensation! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Is the Dunhelm Mill version cheaper? <runs off to google Dunhelm Mill>
Sorry to hark back so, I tried to keep up with thread yesterday but lost it a bit......so much to do atm. Solicitors want £100 to do a Local Authority Search. Now surely any plans would appear on the council website in these days of the interweb..........besides, I know the area well. There is nowhere to put a nightclub/new supermarket and the roads are perfectly adequate so there would be no need to knock my house down a build a three lane highway through it.
Any thoughts on the necessity of such a search? Is there something else they do APART from looking at planning?vivatifosi wrote: »You need one or two of these:

I've got two of the Dunelm Mill version of these, they are great. Never need to worry about weather again and don't take up much floorspace. For optimum drying, only hang a item on every other notch.Ellie
