In terms of Christmas presents I'm all yours. I love spending other peoples' money.
Definitely an interesting idea Viva.
When would I have the time to back all these cd's etc up?It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Well, its not the same as backing up vinyl, where 1 hour of music is 1 hour of backing up, because the time is compressed and it doesn't take long at all. It depends on quality and format of course (as does how much you'll get on your drive), but DH rips all of his CDs as a matter of course and its a job that takes seconds, minutes at most, definitely not hours. Do make sure you read tutorials so you know what you are doing though and find the right solution before you spend time doing it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Other than a PC, or a very big MP3 player, what kind of gizmo does this Viva?
Some years ago, my brother bought an ipod which was an 80gig thing I think. It was too big & heavy for me to consider. That said, times have changed...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Oh viva you are clever! :A I think I'll be back on this thread late November time wanting your xmas pressie ideas
The word on the street, round my way is that tin foil hats will be big this Christmas.

Alonso's day finally came.
He deserved to win as i expect he was holding all the cards for the pit stop :cool:0 -
In the past I've used external drives as well as having a large hard drive on my laptop which I can back up all my files to. Purely as an example because I don't know what the best buy would be for your requirements, this 1TB external hard drive by Seagate is £59.99 from Maplin and would back up 24,000 hours of music in MP3 format. However going back to what I said earlier, you don't want to just back up the music, you also want to back up the data as to what track is playing, its length etc and get them to sync together.

My problem is different to yours btw. I have 1,000 albums on vinyl and they are a b*tch to back up.
ETA: its still worth backing up your favourite tracks so that you have them on the move. Personally I don't like I-Pods and prefer other makes. I don't think I'd bother sticking 4,000 albums on one though, maybe just my favourite 1000 tracks. That should give enough variety on the move. I'm not aware of any 1TB MP3 players on the market.... yet. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Great news for Alonso! Lewis Hamilton drove like a total twonk today. I'm really pleased for Ferrari, two on the podium including a win in Monza on home turf is a right result. Having said that I was driving back from a weekend away so had to listen to the race on Five Live, great commentary from Chandhok, but still not the same as watching. Will watch the race through tomorrow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Quick question nice people, when the EA ads say :
PUBLIC NOTICE: We are in receipt of an offer of £x for this property. Anyone wishing to place a higher offer must do so before exchange of contracts.
Does that mean the house is a repo? Or are there other explanations?0 -

My birthday is approaching. Now, some of you will be aware that I'm on a clothes ban. Because I've also told everyone I don't want clothes, they are all apparently struggling for ideas. So I need some suggestions.
Now, I'm a massive music fan, but unfortunately I buy pretty much everything as it comes out. I have 4000-ish cd's, so it is near impossible to buy me a cd.:o People who do tend to find either I already have it, or I hate it.:o
So, suggestions for anything up to about £70 max (or a cheapo version of an expensive thing;)).
My brother has a list of books I'm after, & will be getting a selection of those. I don't know what to suggest to people, & nothing I have is about to fall apart, so I have no idea what to suggest. Someone suggested a mobile phone, but my phone is only 2 years old, not worn, & I really like it. I was given a sat nav last year. My dad has given me his old digital camera after upgrading his own, so I'm at a complete loss.
Nice peeps, I throw myself at your mercy.
(When will lostinrates be back - this'd be right up her street...:D)
e.g. I wrote an article earlier on "make your own jewellery courses" and there's this stuff called Silver Clay, which is 925/sterling silver, but is a clay that you then make into jewellery before firing in a kiln or with a blowtorch. Then you buff/polish it. Job done. Lots of single-day courses exist at £50 or under, including lunch, including all the materials you need.
Might be right up your "But it's My Birthday, I Still Need Something Shiny" street.0 -

You get a good idea of what Ferrari actually mean to Italians and other fans.
I think this years BBC sat/sun coverage is the best ever and the grid walk is worth a watch as Brundle looked fearful of his life.0
