Perhaps I shall finally join in the "what I am reading" part of this thread.

I am reading Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, and finding it very interesting.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Quick question nice people, when the EA ads say :

PUBLIC NOTICE: We are in receipt of an offer of £x for this property. Anyone wishing to place a higher offer must do so before exchange of contracts.

Does that mean the house is a repo? Or are there other explanations?

Could mean a couple of things:

1 - we're trying to stiff the current bidders (& we'll do the same to you if we get a chance)
2 - we may make a loss on this unless it seels for £Y
3 - we're greedy avaricious so&so's & are trying to milk every penny
4 - we're in DEEP DEEP doo-doo & need something, anything to make a sale (& therefore our business) worthwhile
5 - see, potential sellers, we work REALLY hard...

Is it any good? What is it about?

I'm sure you'll have picked up that Viva & I are constantly uodating our reading lists (or to be more accurate, our "what I'd like to read if I had any time" lists:o), and others have joined in with their current/fave reads.

    I have a question too. I'd like anyone's input.

My birthday is approaching. Now, some of you will be aware that I'm on a clothes ban. Because I've also told everyone I don't want clothes, they are all apparently struggling for ideas. So I need some suggestions.

Now, I'm a massive music fan, but unfortunately I buy pretty much everything as it comes out. I have 4000-ish cd's, so it is near impossible to buy me a cd.:o People who do tend to find either I already have it, or I hate it.:o

So, suggestions for anything up to about £70 max (or a cheapo version of an expensive thing;)).

My brother has a list of books I'm after, & will be getting a selection of those. I don't know what to suggest to people, & nothing I have is about to fall apart, so I have no idea what to suggest. Someone suggested a mobile phone, but my phone is only 2 years old, not worn, & I really like it. I was given a sat nav last year. My dad has given me his old digital camera after upgrading his own, so I'm at a complete loss.

Nice peeps, I throw myself at your mercy.

(When will lostinrates be back - this'd be right up her street...:D)

Usually a repo. Sometimes a sale from a public body where the same need to show that they have got the best price applies, round here army homes were sold off and I think advertised in the same way. You can usually see its a repo by the tape over the taps.

From what you've described, I'd be looking for some kind of mass storage device that I could back up my 4,000 CDs onto as the loss of some or all of a collection due to fire/theft etc could be devastating, plus there's an element of futureproofing.

Well thanks sjay. We don't unfortunately know yet whether lj likes the idea.

In terms of Christmas presents I'm all yours. I love spending other peoples' money.
