I like the way it captures white, working class angst without a whiff of racism. Also any song that can get the 7/7 bombing and semolina into the same set of lyrics deserves a mention.
Reminiscent of the way some London bands of the 60s began writing about everyday teenagers' experiences/feelings, though this sounds a bit errr..... Robbie Williams, or something, to my old ears.
Liked it anyway, especially the video.0 -
Unfortunately, I didn't know the mother and I was in such shock, forgot to take her registration number! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
People were complaining about misspelt words they keep finding. The one that really annoys me is 'for piece of mind'. I know it's one of those homophones that's incredibly easy to get wrong when typing quickly. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

It is kinda amazing the things people do.
I know it can be easier said than done, but I'd have photo'd the car & child, written the reg plate & contacted them there & then. Social services could've chosen to attend straight away, or check with the dvla who the car owner was.
But of course, in the heat of the moment we don't always do what with hindsight we would do...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I was at Asda last Summer when a guy left his dog in the car without water and the windows done up. I was about to smash his window when he came out and started arguing with me. In spite of the fact that the crowd around me by then were taking my side (eventually), the guy still couldn't see the error of his ways and I reported the incident to the RSPCA, then went home a nervous wreck as I don't really do confrontation.
Two things struck me:
1) people often freeze and/or don't want to get involved. I honestly don't know why I did that day, probably because the animal could have died. In Sue's situation I'd probably have watched from afar.
2) the people who do these things - whether leaving children or animals in cars - are stupid and will do the same again if left unchecked. Child abduction is very rare, so they probably know that they can get away with it, but its still a remarkably careless thing to do, particularly if its a regular occurrence. If you (Sue) go to the shops regularly I'd certainly keep an eye out in case they do it again. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Well I saw something which really shocked me this morning....a young baby (maybe around 7 months ish) left alone in an unlocked car, with windows open, on a main road with busy pathways while the mother went to the shop.
My eldest brother was returned home by a bus driver at the age of 1. He (my brother, not the bus driver) was crawling across the main road - apparently on the Zebra crossing, though, and maybe the bus driver just was impatient. This was pre-1950, and nobody would have thought of reporting to the SS at that time. Were the SS even invented then?
I think that we are maybe a bit over-protective now, not that I recommend letting babies loose on the main road ofc, but we used to have a lot more freedom and responsibility as kids. I used to think nothing at all of coming home alone from school 5 miles away at the age of 7 or 8.
We were left outside in the pram for a nap during the daytime. Same with our babies. There was a cat net, but it certainly wasn't !!!!!phile-proof. Nobody worried much about !!!!!philes then, and as it turns out they were mostly right, because it wasn't some wandering child thief you needed to watch out for but the kids' priests, scout masters, and teachers. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Oh, it's ridiculous. You can't even say p-a-e-d-o-phile without ending up with a load of exclamation marks. Maybe if I leave the a out: pedophile
Edit: that worked! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
One of my siblings (about 11-12) pushed the other one up the shops in a pram (about 1) years ago, left the pram outside, bought whatever she was there to get, walked home ... and was then asked where the pram was.... had to rush back and get it. Of course it was still there, things were back then.0
