Long - but they are getting the school bus, which picks them up and drops them back at the end of our road, so fairly painless. (If v expensive!)
Am worried it will be a v long day for ds once he starts school, but I suppose he can rest on the bus. I hope so, anyway - will miss him.
On the other hand, it will free up more day so I can finally return to working something approaching normal hours, so there are advantages. And dh's commute is vastly quicker than before, so another advantage.

You can plug a proper kb and mouse into your laptop. Either the ones you've got, or if you've no idea where they are, then any £10-15 kb and any £3-5 mouse from any local shop.0

My elder one loved the school bus when he started, mixed with kids from different years. (Psychologically its meant to be healthy and reduces bullying in a school, I think its called vertical intergration). Younger one used to go to sleep and have to be woken at his stop.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Ooh good - I didn't think anyone would sleep, but ds will so need it!
His best friend and another girl from his class will be on the bus with him - they'll all be shattered, but may unfortunately keep each other awake... Maybe when the novelty wearsoff and boredom sets in, slepp will seem a more appealing option? (Must tell dds to leave him be and let him rest...)0 -

I do know that, and even where the mouse is!!! (proud smilie) but hopefully won't need to, as my dh should set up the proper desktop tonight, assuming he can cut through the 100 years of tangly overgrowth aka boxes/stuff surrounding it.
Desperately need to get to my filing cabinet too, which is currently forming the outer perimeter of said wall, but no idea where to put said 'stuff' if I move it - the landing is almost full too.
Some work to do, I think.0 -
Carol - well done on moving - our move was such a nightmare so we have decided that we now live in our 'forever' house even if we win the lottery...I hope your new landlord is in it for the long term. We are going to try cycling to school now we have moved closer (just under a mile) but fear it may be too much for DD2 who is joining reception (DD1 is yr 2 and we have a front bike seat for DS) - 3 times bus fares must mean that you could instead have chosen to live walking distance and paid more for rent but I guess you also get a bit of extra free 'childminding' time while they are on the bus?
We still have loads of boxes in the garage and now also in the roof of 'less used' items and I often now go out and buy things that I know we have but can't be bothered to look for - when we have the planned extension and re-roof I am thinking we will need a second large garden shed to store everything in even though we won't actually be loosing and of our rooms.I think....0 -
carolt, you should look at county's transport to school policy online. As there would be no school places for your elder 2 in more local suitable schools, you may find that they qualify for free places on the school bus.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yes, in an ideal world, my friend with his digger would come along and do the basics, but he is busy elsewhere for a few weeks and the digger is miles away. When we came here, I toyed with the idea of buying a digger and dumper, but when I found I could get both, and a skilled operator, for £15/hr, the idea lost some appeal.

Hi, I need some help, please.
My son is starting uni in a week's time, and he needs an Apple Mac (cos he's doing photography and all those arty types need Macs). I'm horrified that a £500 laptop becomes £1,000 when an Apple label is stuck on it. Anyway, where does he pick one up a bit more cheaply? He needs a Macbook Pro by the look of things, so that's over £1k even after a 10% student discount. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
