I'm not a fan of either, to be honest, but it's better than bunson burner cooking ;) There is something nice about cookers that turn on right away.

Apples are far from ripe at the moment, so blackberry and apple jam is not likely... wonder if you can stew the blackberrys up, store them in the freezer and then add to apple latter on (for jammaking purposes).

I'm fine with the hard boiled eggs. I have plenty of eggs :D I've made blackberry apple jame from frozen, unprocessed berries in winter and spring before now.

I battle with the slow cooker at weekends (tonight we are having beef in red wine and mushrooms, which on a stove top would be thick and concentrated and in the slow cooker is the worst sort of thin aciding broth with icky meat in it). I'm hoping dumplings might help.

    Not that far wrong actually:cool:

The thing about facebook is you can't be honest, your boss/ brother/ worst enemy is reading every word so you're forced to post pap.

Here, you can type what you really think. There is a great deal to be said for anonymity.

Have you got electricity yet? If not, have you investigated making a solar cooker? You can make a temporary cooker quite cheaply http://www.solarcooking.org/ .

Blackberrys are now ripe. Anyone ever made blackberry jam? Am thinking about it.

I don't think the apples need to be particularly ripe to make blackberry & apple jam. It is the apples (I think we have added pears to the mix too depending on what the local hedgerows can provide) that add the pectin needed to get a good set.

Went to "Lakeside", the Essex equivalent of the Kent "Bluewater" shopping centre, both built in the bottom of a disused chalk pit the size of a South African gold mine. While waiting for the bus I noticed the still disused part had been colonised by ripe blackberries the size of grapes - perhaps it is a mutation caused by the high levels of air pollution:eek:
Tasted OK though and qualified for the "super food" tag given to the purple dye in blueberries:beer:
[Here is a hint for owners of bus passes - bus routes centre on and run between large shopping centres, hospitals and County Towns (who control the subsidies). Remember that and you can hop across the country) ]

Well, I am back from holiday!

A good time was had by all, even if the weather didn't exactly play ball all the time. Our caravan was lovely but I will have to make a complaint to head office as so many bits and pieces were missing that I had to go and buy cheapy kitchen equipment (baking sheet, roasting dish and jug) from Asda, despite going and asking twice over at the reception. Also, our fridge had no freezer compartment, an absolute essential with children in tow...their only suggestion was to shop daily!

No idea how that would work for ice pops or ice for the drinks.....

Even with that, I didn't want to come home, it is a completely different life with no rushing around, no hospital appointments etc, so I am well rested.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I love blackberry jam. I porefer blackberry and apple jam or jelly (one of my very favourites in fact). Our south facing berries aren't ripe yet...I check every day..in hope :D

I have electricity just no cooker. I have a slow cooker but HATE it. :o

I think I have missed LIR but you can by a plug in cooker hob 2 plates for £30 odd from argos (I can't find it online though) and the pans simmer and boil really well. I got one when rental cooker broke and will use it again when OH rips out our kitchen in a couple of weeks.
I remember using a calor gas camping stove for 2 months when we first bought this place...nightmare.

Glad the hol went well Sue.

Our garden has it's own blackberries this year as it is now very unkempt and neglected......maybe enough to make 2 pies or 1 jar of jam.

I seem to have lost my MSE therapy posting time to commuting as I now 'lose' 2 and half hours most days.
