I drink very rarely. At weddings, Christmas, etc. I like red wine and bloody marys and that's about it. The rest of the time I see it as a waste of calories that can be better used on chocolate.

Diet cream soda (as opposed to the sickly sweet version with sugar in) is quite nice and also has the bonus of no caffeine.

Never tried diet cream soda, or courgettes.

Am i missing out big time?

Well, obviously you're missing out on the courgette front! In terms of cream soda, its clearly an acquired taste and judging by the comments of others I'm the only one that's acquired it :o.

Soda water is quite bitter and nothing like cream soda. Soda water is drunk more on the continent as a mixer - bicardi and soda.

I love cream soda. American childhood influence perhaps?

No system yet Davesnave....thankfully the old one is holding up ok so far! The man was meant to be here this morning to discuss it. I feel like lost in wessex tbh. Its all so different here;...plusses and minuses. I might finally get to use a two for one pizza deal option, for example. My neighbours are ace, I'm applying for single business identifier number this week for SF payments. I have my first grey hairs but I'm slepping like a log. The train journey DH gets is not direct but is nicer.

We ate the first fruits here....mirabelles....had assumed it was a bog standard plum before the fruits ripened. The bog standard plums are almost, almost ready. The apple trees are bowed under the weight of the fruit. DH has a chainsaw....misskool is welcome to try it out :) The thing terrifies me and while I was extremely sceptical about DH using it I have to admit he' s proving pretty fab with it. 6 conifers trees gone so far, lots and lots left to get to. Sadly we are going to lose some nicer trees we hoped to save too. That will feel a little like murder. We planted something today. That feels a little momentus, and premature, but it was suffering in the pot.

I need to buy a cooker now (presderving the fruit in mind). Cooking on the bunsen burner has not been particularly fun. Scrambled eggs are not by favourite, and it never gets hot enough for poached. I hard boil all the left overs once a week and am living off hardboiled eggs. :)

Have you got electricity yet? If not, have you investigated making a solar cooker? You can make a temporary cooker quite cheaply http://www.solarcooking.org/ .

Blackberrys are now ripe. Anyone ever made blackberry jam? Am thinking about it.

I'm not a fan of either, to be honest, but it's better than bunson burner cooking ;) There is something nice about cookers that turn on right away.

Apples are far from ripe at the moment, so blackberry and apple jam is not likely... wonder if you can stew the blackberrys up, store them in the freezer and then add to apple latter on (for jammaking purposes).
