Do what I do and have a separate freecycle email account
Although, just reading on and you'd never be doing it again, what a shame. It has become rather a farce of late but that's because it seems to be filled with people wanting to furnish their whole house for free. I get the brighton one as well and I know what you mean.
It was all dealers looking for free stock.
The sewing machine went to someone who had no idea and didn't sew....just to sell on. His message said differently about a charity that made things bla bla. A blatant lie which I soon rumbled but it was in his van by then.0 -

 Angry for you!
That pi$$es me off about Freecycle / Freegle. One or two greedy $ods spoil it and see it as a way to get free stuff to sell on. I wouldn't mind so much if they were honest about it.
Our local one encourages people to say if they mind items being sold on or not, but even when you say something isn't for selling on you still get the same people ask after everything you put on.0 -
Never had that happening that I know of from anything we've freecycled. Always gone to above-board types; likewise we've only ever sold on 1 thing we got - some books that were going to go to the dump and no-one wanted. We happened to be doing a car boot shortly after - but I couldn't bear to see good books being pulped.
When I've freecycled valuable stuff, I've always been v careful to see it goes to a real home - eg baby stuff going to people obviously pregnant/with small children.
Hard to do if you're in a hurry, I suppose.
I do remember 1 particular charmer who harangued me because I hadn't chosen them, even though they'd asked for it first (presumably sitting at home pouncing on everything with a monetary value... grr). I had to justify why I'd given it to someone else more deserving and virtually apologize for this!

Well have managed to oik the washing machine out on my own (with some 'assistance' from my younger cat...grrr) and from my cursory glance and tug on things, all the pipes seem to be still attached.
Now waiting for eldest to have a break from revision so he can get behind the machine properly to have a good look.
Freecycle - I always seem to get the scam adverts, the ones where an item is offered and then when you reply, you get an email telling you to enter into a competition or a website where they get cashback or something like that. They have tried to stop it (it was absolutely rife at one point for even normal things like beds or wardrobes) but some still get through.
My stuff is usually beyond repair when it comes to be replaced so not much point putting it on there but we did once give away a Thomas Tank Engine bed to another autistic little boy who was just as obsessed with Thomas as youngest had been.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I was hoping to use freecycle when we move....now the carboot looks like an even better idea. Shame none of you are local: we could combine selling forces.
I have hurt my knee, nasty burning pain, so I'm trying to keep still today so that the thing heals quickly.
sue, I rely heavily on the washing machine, with three sons I guess you do as well. I hope its easily sorted. I'm meant to be looking at which soon to look at washing machines, first time I'll choose my own one...the pressure to get it right! I'm hoping if i know which models are in my short list I might find one of them in the sales.0 -
I certainly do LIR, even more so with 2 of them having bowel disorders...it means lots and lots of washing!
If it is broken, it has done well....we got it in 2003 and it is on virtually every day, quite often more than once in a day. If it isn't a pipe loose, then I have no idea what it is!
You rest up LIR, hurt knees are a pain to recover...have you thought about having it checked out?We made it! N'ah. It'll be alright after a rest, I expect it will play up a bit on and off, how these things do, but i can rest now, so no reason to push it.In a way, its quite cool it hurts, last year I wouldn't have been able to eel it, so would have kept inflicting damage on it. The only serious thing I might do today is clean the car. Everything else, apart from hanging a wash out, will wait til tomorrow. Or I have some fruit boxes I can shove some more books into without moving around too much.
I'm really keen to try the old style laundry gloop. with lots of washing the difference in price of detergent really adds up..what do you use Sue?0 -
We've had wierd experiences with freecycle. I put big stuff on for a friend - like sofas and wardrobes - we got replies within minutes as soon as we listed, all with sob stories of need, yet they all had vans ready and waiting to drive round and collect. Turned out to be professional resellers and landlords.
One of the local groups had big email discussions and reminded people that (a) your getting rid of stuff, so as long as it was used elsewhere its within the rules and (b) you can add notes to your items that you will only review recipients after 24 hours to allow time for everyone to see your listing rather than respond to the first caller.
We got rid of some Ikea stuff like coat stands and the recipient drove all the way to Ikea to view it first before coming round, must have spent more on petrol than it cost!
We did have some clearly deserving people getting stuff that they needed and a load of found in our garage when we moved in that people found were missing pieces from outdoor sets that they couldn't source new.

I've got a spare sewing machine that I don't know what to do with. Bought it second hand about 15 years ago, then inherited my grandmothers machine. I lent it to a friend who managed to get the bobbin thread all tangled round the needle, so it now sits broken, taking up room. Too heavy to post so can't Ebay, probably no use on freecycle as it needs untangling and oiling. Its a "brother", doesn't do zigzags as I remember, doubt its worth anything now, but can't bring myself to dump it in the rubbish.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
