We still own 180m2 of Bath, if anyone wants to camp there within a mile of the city centre. There's water, but no loo, and the parking is naff. It's within the Conservation area, though.:)
Thank you for the offer but I don't do camping or caravans or anything without a power shower and room service.
I went to Appleby and booked into a very nice hotel. I spent the entire weekend in flat shoes.
I did manage to get absolutely rat arsed on the last night and win a horse in a game of brag.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

Been playing in leagues since the age of 12.
It is one of the most enjoyable yet simple pleasures in life. So relaxing, and so therapeutic.
You see it on the telly, & think it looks simple, rolling a ball as close to another. It is actually a lot more difficult than it looks. I've taken friends with me, who've been suprised at how difficult it is.
It is a complete break for me from work, or other responsibilities.
It takes my mind away from many stresses.
It is relaxing yet gives focus.
Not much can beat a lovely sunny day, bowls match, cold drink. In the sunshine - sometimes I play bare foot. The feeling of the soft grass on the feet cools you down. You have the contrast of the competition of the match, with the relaxation of the individual.
For years, all my friends called it "old man bowls". To which I'd retort "Am I an old man? No! Well its not old man bowls then!" For quite some time I was the youngest/among the youngest. That has changed now...
My family have always played it. I use my grand-dads bowls whichg he bought from new, over 75 years ago.
Twice a week minimum. Love it...:D
I remember 1 year in particular - quite recent. Work & associated stresses were really getting to me - becoming unbearable. The person in charge of the rota put me in a load of off-site locations (I assume thinking it'd alienate me & I'd hate it). It had the opposite effect - removed me from the stress, meant that I could focus on the people I work with, & also could be packed up at 4pm with everything chucked into the car by 4.01pm & could get to the bowling green before rush hour kicked in.
What was then really lovely was relaxing on the green - playing bowls, or sometimes just lying down in the sun on the soft grass, whilst all around me madness reigned, people in their cars being frustrated in the traffic and the rushing around. & there was me, in my own idyllic setting, alone, in calm-ness!
I always quite liked petanque....haven't played for years though.
I can understand how it makes you feel.
Swimming does it for me....the whoosh and just hearing the bubbles wipes out all my stress....and the endorphin high after is handy too.0 -

You make me sound like Boudicca. :rotfl:Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It's a kind of poker. I learned to play it at my Daddys knee.
Usually I have the good sense not to play with the Irish.
I offered to sell the horse back, the less-than-nice Irishman just laughed. I offered to give it back, the whole room went into hysterics.
I had to hire a horse box to come home. Have you any fu cking idea how much that costs when everyone knows you really need one?
I went to pick it up, my wonderful winnings was dancing round the green like a lunatic. I had to wrap my favourite Reiss jacket round its head to get it boxed.
It is now comfortably esconced in a field overlooking the sea wearing a halter and about a mile of rope. It is the only way to catch it, you just grab and hope for the best.
And no, I have no idea what I am going to do with itRetail is the only therapy that works0 -

So did I ws. When I was a kid we went by ship to live in Australia. My parents would play brag each night in the cabin when they thought I was asleep. Instead I watched and taught myself how to play. I then went around the ship challenging the passengers and fleecing them for sweets, pressies etc. I was five. I've never won a horse though. Viva, I was had. I was up a grand and unstoppable.
I ended up with the nag from hell and I had to pay the "loser" a kings ransom for the loan of his horsebox.
Never, ever play brag with tinkers.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

I only ever played brag once.
My very mild mannered grand-dad (who's bowls I use) went
I was told off severely for indulging in gambling. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
