My dad had been watching The Prisoner on the telly, (1967-1968) so that's why we went there. Don't remember a lot about it to be honest.
This is so embarrassing as I've never ever heard of it.:o
OH and I had some time together this weekend.....we went awol in Soho last night....and we were planning things.
OH isn't really a planner but realises we need to knuckle down and PLAN. Nagging does work sometimes.
I remember Janet St Porter saying when she hit 50 she wanted to try and do/visit/experience one thing every week that she had never done before....even a simple thing like eating something she had never tasted before.
So, in 3 years time we are going to visit one place we have never been to before once a month. I reckon we could do the whole UK before we die.:D0 -
I would imagine LJ is down sarf with the rest of you so the delights of the north aren't possible on an away day ticket.

Can I just say (in a
humble manner) it is so kind of everyone to build up all these suggestions. They're all great, and it is really humbling that you've all taken the time to think of them & post the ideas and links.
I am indebted to all of you...:T
I needed a list of between 5-10 ideas. I'd like to say thanks for giving me more!:T
I will now be moving into planning stage. No dates are definites, however most of it'll be late july-late august.
fc123 & lir London was originally going to be august, but that has now moved to october.
Planning will involve:
Pastures daytrip
Bath
North Wales/Beaumoris/Caenarfon/Portmeirioin
York
Viva's Battle ideas
Davesnaves Ryton Organic Gardens
A day or 2 at the seaside (still need to decide on where though...)
carolt Cadburys world is something I meant to do a while ago & never got round to. I might tie that one in with the Black country living museum http://www.bclm.co.uk/ or Blists Hill http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/our_attractions/blists_hill_victorian_town/ (both of which I have been to before, but would highly recommend. Indeed Blists Hill is up for an award as best UK museum, along with 3 others which I can't recall right now...:o)
That said, flexibility will always be key, so if anyone has any other super ideas (sss555s? sjay? wageslave? anyone else?) please feel free to post em or pm me...:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

October, IMO, is a better time to see London. I'm not big on heaving cities in the heat of summer.
Bath...will still be localish to me when I move....I think I'll be nearer actually.0 -

crossed posts wageslave.
I'm in the midlands, so happy to go anywhere.:)
A friend did buy me one of those "become a laird or a lady" packs where you are own approx 1 square foot of land somewhere in scotland (the actual area isn't specified, so loads of you collectively own a few acres or more). This way, it becomes protected from developers and the like I assume. Apparently by owning this small piece of land entitles me to the title laird or lady...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

That was my thinking. Plus possible heat, heaving with tourists, plus some kind friendly soul mentioned the risk of merchants there drastically increasing prices...;)
Plus in many ways, October will be easier to arrange, less hassle with time off work, the bowls season will have ended too, so I won't be fitting it around that.
Got a date yet lir? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Hello LJ honey:A
I am afraid it would take more than the purchase of a few acres to turn me into anyones idea of a lady.
I love away days. You get to come home to your own bed knackered but happy and the lawn hasn't grown up to your ankles in your absence.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Days out.... I would love to help, but am not very well travelled so other than where to go in Dorset I'm not much help....
I don't think I've ever been to (or, to be honest, through) your area other than to go to Blackpool and Alton Towers
Think my next big planned day out will be legoland (fingers crossed)
Whats the transport links like in your area- I mean, whats your North, South, East & West limits for a day trip?We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung
