I think I've said before that DW and I tried selling at ag shows, but we usually did less business than the footfall would give hope for. As a result, we eventually avoided two shows with a large horse and dog element, so I've not seen many in recent years.
We felt like you at one of our regular 'horticultural' shows about 6 years ago though. By then the ticket price seemed very steep for families. We found ourselves staring across the Triumph Stag group, sipping their G&Ts, towards the arena, where cowboys shot at indians. A frown formed on our faces and we found ourselves asking each other 'What the hell are we doing here?'
The word 'horticultural' was dropped from the name of that show around that time. We didn't go back for two or three years, but when economics forced a return, we were virtually unopposed and did rather well!0 -

I can't help feeling better prices and deals on multi tickets would get more people in that fewer tickets at a high price.
I often think that for many different things. There are so many activities which I don't take my children on because they are so expensive but if they were just that little bit cheaper, I would.
I cannot be the only parent who is like me, who has to think of budgets etc (in fact I know I am not), so why don't these places lower the prices a little.
For example, I take my children to the cinema in the school holidays as a treat, we do have a big multiplex one with lovely comfy seats, a huge screen, air conditioned etc but do I take the boys there?
No
I take them to our little 2 screen cinema which lacks air conditioning (and in winter, you need to keep your coat on!), has the old fashioned flip up seats, a smaller screen and no 3D.
And the reason being is price, at my little local cinema, you can have entrance for 2 adults and 2 children plus full meals and drinks for all for less than £30. At the big cinema, for the same price, I can't even get drinks for all of us on top of the admission, let alone any food.
The local cinema was packed yesterday for the showing of Tooth Fairy, the big one is almost empty on the odd times someone else takes us up there. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I am not long back from Appleby. When your saddle gets removed down there, it generally means some sod has nicked it.
Twenty quid for an Ag show seems extortionate even for the English.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Thanks guys on the congratulations....I'm still absolutely gobsmacked and keep looking at the result to make sure it is true.
I was so convinced it would struggle to get a pass mark, let alone get my highest score as it really was not my best work...I just got it submitted because time was running out and something was better than nothing at all.
But why do I feel like I am struggling but it's not coming out that way in my scores? I am not at all confident about my work, so it really is just very strange. We made it! Hi Sue,
Level 2 courses are going to seem harder. Level one courses are a gentle introduction to study after often years without contact with a text book. Level two courses are proper degree courses. However OU marks are very consistent IMO and if they think you are worth an excellent grade then you are. You obviously grasp the subject matter much better than you realise, so congratulations and stop worrying! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

As you know, I've had run ins with melanoma skin cancer. A news report has come out today stating that the number of men dying from melanoma has doubled in the UK.
As this is too big to add to my sig, can I please, please ask you to wear sunscreen and report any changing moles to your doctors. I've recently had my third suspect mole removed. Its an easy procedure, doesn't for the most part involve hospitalisation other than outpatient surgery and is much better than premature death!
Its pretty straightforward, if a mole looks anything other than round, has unusual borders, is multicoloured or very dark, is larger than a pencil top (6mm) then get it looked at next time you visit your doctor. If you have any of these and it is also changing size or shape, or itching or bleeding, then its worth making an appointment to see your doctor. Women of the forum, please check your menfolk all over, could be fun but very important...
Sorry for getting on my soapbox, but its very important to me. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for your "signature" strip - it was one of the things that prodded me into action over a growing "mole" on my ankle.
The other four factors were:
* Knowing these rules already from a radio programme about the growing incidence of skin cancer and the Aussie results of the "slip slop slap" campaign.
* Meeting a wealthy bloke (own yacht & late plate Jag), who had always enjoyed holidays in the sun, but was now in his 70's and getting BUPA to pay the price, in the form of frequent snips of growths on his skin.
* The realisation that our immunity system decays with age allowing external influences to get a grip on our skin (eg wart creating viruses).
* Knowing that I am part of the generation, whose families discovered, in the late 50's early 60's, that holidays in the "costas" were better value than a boarding house in (say) "Weymouth".
A fortnight of frying young white skin in inadequate suntan oil, leaves its legacy and we are now reaping what we sowed 50 years ago.
Anyway my GP agreed we might as well cut off my "mole" and employed his nurse and a young medical graduate type to do so. Said graduate observed that it was not melanoma (I knew that I'd checked the internet;)) and though it would have continue to grow it would not kill me.
I was surprised at he size of the "root" and the purple scar is taking its time to fade.
So to other blokes I would say - it is quite interesting, does not hurt too much, you don't have to make a fuss, just do it.0 -
