It's Carol's thread Dave and she has to decide which way it goes in the future. Carol has at times been attacked by people who are regulars in the forum but aren't necessarily regulars on this thread for not being very nice. To be fair, that's the nature of debate, sometimes it gets heated. I like this thread as an antidote to the debating threads - whether it is called the place where nice people meet or an oasis from such debate - I just hope such a place exists going forward. If people don't want to read it they have a choice. It isn't as if any regular here doesn't know what it is, what it represents and who the contributors are, if they don't want to join in then fair enough. Surely one thread among hundreds is fine in a landscape where often the same thing is posted twice or we get swamped with 'the end of the world is nigh' type posts.

Me too.

I thought it was also created originally to keep personal chit-chat off the board, which I'd agree with, even though I am one of those who will occasionally make silly or facetious posts wherever I find myself.

Oh me too. I've really had to rein myself in lately which is why my post count is down dramatically. I can't help myself typing responses to threads about gold, the end of the world or impending economic collapse. I blame it on the thread about dopester's dog - it's a tangent I can't mentally get back from, possibly because it was such good fun, but it means I keep being facetious everywhere else. Sorry .

No, I've not been excluded - not that I'd noticed, anyway...?

I have been posting, if a bit less frequently; nice weather, half-term, etc - real life intrudes (sorry sss!).

I started the thread not to so much to keep personal chit-chat off the main threads (I'm all for a bit of personal chit-chat, me ); but more as a refuge from the bickering/ad hominem attacks that threatened to overwhelm the board at points.

I know I should try to get less heated elsewhere, and not get involved, but I'm just not very good at it - I'm a passionate person who doesn't suffer fools gladly, and so it just sort of spills out...oops.

But on this thread I do try to keep to the self-imposed rules and keep the aggro out. (And the chocolate in. ) It's kept going as long as it has because so many of the great people on the forum hang out here, who are interesting, inspiring, etc - always worth popping in to find out what they have to say.

I don't really see it as 'my' thread at all, viva - it's OUR thread; I'm just the person who happened to start it.

Wasn't it just? I can't believe that after the Red Bull coming together the McLarens went at it hammer and tongs in the same place. Excellent race, good result, means that the RBs won't go scampering off to the sunset and will make for a good season. Nice to see something of the old Schumi too.

The broodies sharing a clutch have had their first hatch. Thank goodness its their responsibility and not mine. and thank goodness we will have more space soon.

At risk of upsetting bouche, at our new house there were....ducklings. Fairly well grown, but still cute.
