I think it's only fair Germany won - big thank you from Europe for the bail-out. :)

The song didn't do anything for me personally, either.

I am sure GN said that it has already been no 1 across 7 countries...I always thought EV was for new unknown work and performers?

The UK needs to watch out as those at the top are just cloning out all our spirit. I mean, the whole X Factor feel to our entrant is similar to the Tescosisation of our diet, the clone High St on how we dress and so on.

Next year they should just put the word out and invite any band with an original song to audition. Sons GF is in a band and it's amazing...though looks like they are going to be signed shortly...but loads of talent out there. Waterman should stick to playing toy trains now.

A lot of the EV entrants are established artists. Only the UK don't take it seriously, turning it into the Gay world cup, as it should be :D

It's FUN, no need to psychoanalyse everything :D

Because it's !!!!!! and one big joke. It's always been embarrassing.... the sort of bands in it most years are either complete oddballs, or the sort your granny would love.

Katrina and the Waves did it one year, when she was trying to resurrect her career - they won it in 1997. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katrina_And_The_Waves

She'd actually tried to resurrect her career some years earlier (I remember being dragged off to some dark car park in the 4r5e end of Essex/Herts one night with her latest demo CD in the early 90s, to meet with some record bloke, so he could listen to her latest stuff in my car as I had a good CD player and my mate had done the recording/mixing for her) .... dunno what he thought of it (didn't really care), but certainly at that point she failed to resurrect. Eurovision was obviously her last attempt after that failed.

From the western fringes to the cutting edge (Essex/Herts :)) and back! PN, you never fail to amaze! :)

I might have been there myself.... but a decade too late - I'd got the littluns by then!

I can't believe I went to sleep at 9.30ish, but this thread proves it. Went into the living room to see what EV was all about and found the others watching a Japanese anime film, so sat down and nodded off......:( Getting well past it!

To be honest, Germany is the only country at the moment that can afford the thing.

That's debatable!, but not here, in this Oasis called the nice people thread. :D

Perhaps carolt could use "The Oasis" within the title of TNPT3, if she can manage to be nice enough to be allowed back in ;)

Oh no! I can't believe I missed a thread about one of my favourite events of the year! We had a Eurovision party last night. We do every year. We each have a voting cards and at the end present the votes of our jury and see how close we get to the winner. We normally also have votes for bad costumes, dreadful songs and inappropriate hairdos, but there were sadly not as many of these this year. As for Norton's comment that girls under 8 would love a dress with the pop up wings for Christmas, I'd like one of those for Christmas for my dressing up box (well I'd start a dressing up box just to put it in) and I'm in my 40s.

I'm with MissKool that we have to realise that the Eurovision is a different affair now and has moved on. We won't win again until we put up an established act. My favourite was Iceland as I do like a good clubbing anthem, followed by Turkey and Belgium, then Germany. Thought Turkey put on the best show and that Ukraine was the best singer. Don't know who else said it, but I too loved that chocolate brown dress the presenter wore during the results segment.
