Do love Soho. Kind of sleazy, but very alive, somehow...

Isn't that funny? I think Soho is quite quaint these days. I don't know what it was like in the 60s when Dave found it scary, but I worked there in the 1980s and it was terrifying then. It feels so chi chi and sanitised now. I used to work for a film company and had to take the rushes down the alley to the next street. The alley I had to walk down was full of prostitutes. They didn't sit behind glass windows but chicken wire. Once I was walking along with a female colleague of mine and it was cold so she had a big parka up round her face so you couldn't see her. An old pro - seeing how young I was - shouted out to my colleague "oi mate, don't bother with a young'un like her, we can really teach you things". When my colleague looked in abject horror at the thought of being called a bloke the pro said "sorry love, but I can still teach you some really good tricks". The same place is now an upmarket sandwich bar.

I've only ever walked through Soho once.....

It's been an absolute age since we visited London, strange bearing in mind I am from a London family and all my school holidays were spent staying with my nan in Walthamstow. The last time we went 'up West' was when hubby was here and a fair while before we split but after the London Eye was built..so not sure of the actual year, would have to go and study the pic of us on the Eye to see how young we look.

Coming to the end of an exhausting week, only two more appointments to go, one for me and yet another one for eldest. Going to be great fun going between the two as mine is at 12.30 locally for half an hour and his is at 2pm at the big hospital which is around a half hour drive away, so leaving time for parking and then getting to the department from the car park, it could be quite tight! It was that or leave my appointment for another month (the specialist only visits once per month).

And it now looks like they will be investigating youngest as well as middle son for Ehlers Danlos (the thing eldest was diagnosed with a couple of weeks ago) plus trying to work out which parent it came from....both me and ex hubby are hypermobile, me more so than him (he could do the full lotus, I could do many weird things with my hands and fingers, legs, back, feet, toes...hell most my body!)

Next week, I have the task of geeing myself up for the lone parent work focussed interview, I always dread it (no idea why, the lady is lovely and has given excellent advice) and it always makes me feel incredibly weepy and depressed for a few days after...I even burst into tears the last time I was there.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sue, as a carer, I thought you didn't have to attend work focussed interviews? (I assume you are on carers allowance).

Can I ask nice peeps, how does brocolli grow? I have my plants in pots at the mo. I will be planting it out this weekend. Do I need to support the plants with stick/canes? Does it grow on the floor?

I have no idea.:o I just bought some seeds thinking "hmmm, that'd taste nice...:D

Are you sure it's brocolli? Could it say purple sprouting broccoli on the packet?

The vegetables you buy in the shop are normally sold as Calabrese, in seed packets.

Last time I went, the advisor said it was being thought that carers would not have to go anymore but that it might turn out that I would have to go once a year...or even still the 6 monthly appointments.

Yep, she didn't really know :rotfl:

I don't mind going at all, afterall, there has to be some kind of check point to make sure you are still eligable, even for carers. Plus the advisor was very helpful in talking through the OU options, further training etc instead of just saying "Ok, you're a carer, see you in 6 months", which was NOT what I wanted. I wanted to be offered the help, the choices, the advice to get back into work, no matter how impossible it appears right now...so it suits me.

I just get so blooming depressed about it that's all, as it brings my situation, the frustration and the hopelessness of it, to the fore in my mind.

I'll have to check. Bought the seeds, planted em, suppose reading the label would've helped...

That said, Calabrese is ringing a bell. I'm thinking that is the one.

The plants in the pots haven't grown up straight. The stems appear to look quite sturdy, but they are growing in a wibbly wobbly direction...

To take it a little further, how do the plants develop?

    I've got me nets ready...;)

My understanding is that they can't force you (as a carer) to attend them, though you can attend through your own choice. I am sure that they can't direct you to do anything, as you are a carer (whereas people on JSA can be directed to attend courses and the like).

Try not to get depressed about it mate. Why not use it as an opportunity to review progress made in the past 6 months? Highlight the positives. The excellent grades in your OU course. Your independence. Your focus on where you'd like to be. Your childrens independence. (As LydiaJ has said, look at a few of the posts you've made highlighting your own successes!):)

Sounds like you have the most positive attitude to the work focussed interview I have ever encountered!:)

The double whammy is that it also sounds like you have a good member of staff to actually work with!:)

    Go get em girl!:D

Basically, the main difference is I would personally tend to stake Calabrese, whereas purple sprouting, I wouldn't bother. You sow them at different times, too. Apart from that, you can pretty much treat both as cabbage.... follow instructions on packet...

It doesn't sound like there's much wrong with your plant. Maybe turn it more often? (i.e. if it is starting to bend towards the light). Apart from that, it sounds like it is developing quite well.
