I get marzipan posted to me sometimes from sicily...unbelievably lovely.
Never have i wished i could make photos work so much as last night, twelve little fuzzy bottoms, twelve little fuzzy heads, sleeping head to head in two neat rows. Sadly hovering with stifled ''ooohhhhhs'' of cuteness woke them. They returned to sleep more conventionally in a great big huddle. Poor little motherless thingssnuggling into each other.
I much prefer seeing them with a hen, despite the unparalleled cute of having such access to them.
One brave little girl keeps jumping out, and then off the table on to the kitchen floor before getting nervous and calling for me to put her back. The others all crowd round her on her return....and she looks nonhalent, tending her big girl's wing feathers (the girls with the feathers are very proud of them, especially showing the two pretty-much-certainly boys who aren't yet bless with proper feathers).
If the cats come into the kitchen with me the sit, close by the cage, bolt upright like egyptian cats....ears pricked, eyes flickering from one chick to another. No paws through the bars, no ''bird noise'' like when they normally see bird prey. Dog -dog eats her meals in the kitchen and I stay with her, but she has very little interest in the chicks now. Every time I leave the room, so must everyone else, then the door is locked.
We've already been through half a sackof chick crumb, not so much because they are eating lots, but more because they spread it around, then ap dance on it. They have three ramekins full at all times, and usually argue about which one will sit in the ramekin. I tried putting a small cardboard box in for interest or snuggle space, but nothing beats sitting in yu supper bowl!0 -
PS LemonJelly - have I missed when you told us what job you do, or is that as closely guarded a secret as your gender?
Not a secret LydiaJ. I actually have 2 jobs. I work in a college supporting students. I also work for a housing assoc with vulnerable children who are homeless/subject to care orders etc. My background is working for housing asociations, local councils, and a number of charities. Essentially I've worked in the advice sector for 14 years...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
