Right, I'm attempting to do something out of my comfort zone and have hatching plans to do an art exhibition in London. Does anyone have any clues on how one goes about doing something like that?

A whole exhibition? I know there is the Brick Lane place where you take them a piece or two to hang...

DH's godfather has an exhibition on ATM, I think, I'll ask him for you....

    Cool. Good on you, misskool.

My FIL had had a couple of small art exhibitions in cafes - you just basically go into cafes that either currently sell art or that look like your stuff might suit their walls, and ask. Though thinking about it I think his exhibitions were organised as part of a collective of artists he just hangs out with socially (this is in Spain, but see no reason why it shouldn't apply here) - I think they did the first one in the Town Hall. So um - try cafes or artists' groups?

BTW, he sold quite a few - not huge money, but at least enough to subsidise his materials.

Not very helpful I'm afraid...someone came to him and offered from a gallery...for a percentage of the sales fees. :(

DH's canteen has art on display (for sale) but obviously not open to the public.

Sorry not to be more help :(

Depends on the type of art you're wanting to show and how much you want for it (if planning to sell). You could go for a gallery, you could go for a show, such as Affordable Art (though I think that was last month so you may need to wait a bit) or you can do a small scale exhibition.

It is not uncommon for public buildings (such as libraries and civic spaces) to hire out some space for art shows. My library will even sell paintings up to a certain value. I can also recall an art show (can't remember the name though) where local artists club together and exhibit in their own homes, so people can trek between several houses in a day, look at the paintings of different artists and buy those they like. Does this help give you any ideas? Good luck though misskool. I agree with carolt on this, its a really cool thing to do.

Well, as I was talking just now about libraries I thought I'd mention a new phenomenon I've noticed over the last couple of months. Teenagers have started coming into the library to use the computers for five minutes or so to update their facebook pages. They then tell all their friends that they are "at the library". Now, given that they wouldn't have come in otherwise and would then have been doing something else, isn't updating one's status to say you're at the library a bit superfluous? Or am I just a bit old?

We have something called Art on the Prom here....it's only one day but all the local (and not so local) artists can display and sell their work.

It's a huge thing here, youngest took part last year in the kids section and managed to sell 3 drawings but he was jealous of those actually on the prom...he was stuck in the gardens.

    http://www.artontheprom.org/

Failing that, our local art galleries like to display local artists...would yours do the same?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

:) the art isn't from me (well, not as such). I'm applying for funding for the concept so can't give too much out. We wouldn't need to sell the fund the exhibition (in fact, I doubt some of the pieces would merit a price tag).

Some ideas to mull over through there and now I need to find some artists. When it's funded I should be able to tell more. thanks all
