Not a fan of onions/leeks/cabbage. Tried cabbage last year - the only plant that didn't work!

Other than that, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've written - several times over!

Do try the cucumbers, they will turn out lovely!
'm having my first go at courgettes & runner beans this year.
Sprouts last year were also amazing. So I'm doing more this year.

And yes, there is so much pleasure & enjoyment in spending time looking after the plants, cultivating them, having the time in the garden, reducing the stress etc. Fresh air. & it is fun!:)

The taste of some (such as the toms) make it worthwhile enough for me, but as a hobby, I get so much more out of it!

Only 1 courgette plant unless you want to build a mountain in them. Planted 3 in my first year thinking I'd not get much from each..... OMG..... we have trouble keeping up with one!
Not tried sprouts either. Love them, so must give them a go.

I'm down to no.5 on the waiting list for the allotment I want (100 yds from house). Been waiting 3 years so far and joined at no.13. Perhaps next year or the one after???? Lots of space to grow even more then!

Cabbage is easy here....but for the caterpillars....its like an reserve for bugs up here, innit? Courgettes are fabulous, and so prolific!

    :o

Didn't want to say find 'em easy too but now youve started.....

Yeah you need netting to keep the butterflies off but otherwise cabbages are a cinch.

    Uh-oh, I've planted 8 courgette seeds!

Good luck with the allotment. They are like gold dust. Personally, I like the back garden thing, being able to just walk out of the back door into the tranquility!

Do have a go at sprouts. They do need about 12 months in the ground, but are good through the winter. Moths/caterpillars love em though...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

May I be so bold as to suggest giving away the weakest 6 or 7. Either that or not eating for a month.... get yourself nice and hungry.

Yeah I could have one I could drive to but I want to be able to walk it with tools and barrow etc.... 100yds aint too bad.
I'll keep the three plots in the back garden but the Mrs won't give me any more space than that..... besides I love my lawn too.

One courgette plant is enough for anyone. Plus their immediate neighbours.

We go three courgettes usually. A yellow and two greens. The otherthing is to remember to store. Corgettes can be sliced, sauteed briefly and frozen. Or a tom, courgette mix frozen.

we do eat lots of courgettes though, courgette & onion fritata is a big favourite here with salad, or perhaps ham.

It makes sense to freeze for winter with excess. I'd certainly keep more than one, personally.

we have 6 courgettes. Seriously, you guys are wimps. We can eat 3-4 courgettes a week (for a while) before I get bored. :D

We did sprouts last year....brother thought they had failed and told me to rip them up, I got lazy and forgot and a month later, some lovely sprouts started sprouting...albeit late, but sprouting.

In the end they were a great success, only problem is that middle son is the only one who eats them!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Also, stuffed corgettee flowers......perhaps we should grow more? eating the flowers greedily does reduce the crop.

Little baby courgettes make beautiful additions to crudite platter.

We had a wet week or two (as part of the wet summer...) last year, when suddenly all the nearly-ready courgettes turned into marrows.

We had a LOT of marrows - were giving them away to everyone, and making/freezing bucketloads of ratatoilee.

We still have 1 giant 1 that's been sitting in the veg box since last year; now turned yellow. Not sure if it's still edible - too scared to try.

But all that was as nothing compared to the pumpkin mountain...
