Hi all,
Well i was tempted to buy!! a steamer yesterday as I want to keep the nutrition in my veggies but I couldn't bring myself to part with my hard earned cash so I used my noggin and dragged my metal colunder and sieve from the dark space in the cupboard in the corner of my kitchen and placed these over pans of boiling water with the lids ontop and it worked a treat!!! Saved myself a few quid too!! More pots to do than usual but as the saying goes @If it's not broke don't fix it!'
Just thought i would share, i guess some of you have been doing this for ages but I sometimes do take ages to catch up!!
Have a good day everyone!!

I've got a steamer with two upper levels - and they are both just like glorified colanders. OK so they are designed to fit on top of the bottom pan and the lid is designed to fit on all three - but diddly doo! so what!!! Yours will do the exact same job as mine *** - that's meant to be three gold stars for you :T .
Good on you girl, and it's one that I wouldn't have thought of - I never can see the obvious, easy route to something.0 -
Hi Rossy,
That's a great tip!I've added it to the main thread on steamers so that others can find it easily.

I've got one!
Used it loads of times... it's quick, easy etc.
The only problem I have is that the bowls tend to crack if you put them in the dishwasher... so I rinse them by hand now.
Very useful.

Yes we have one
Its very good! We can feed a family of four (3 big and growing lads and me) with all the veg they need in the three tiers. The idea is you put the most dense veg (like carrots) at the bottom and the more delicate ones (like broccoli) at the top.

Not that exact one - but I have a Tefal steamer. It gets very frequent use in my kitchen. Its more than a little the worse for wear now - but still gets used several times per week.0

That's what I wanted to hear. Someone reported on the daily thread about a tefal one at Argos, reduced to £20, being less than half price. Located one, then thought I would check Amazon for reviews. Found the one above for £15. The argos one is digital, more to go wrong, £5 more and I would have to go over to Northwich to get it, would take half an hour each way plus time spent there. My present one is tefal and bowl is on it's way out following a drop.
