:rotfl: Excellent moggins!!! Made my day!
My family are a bit frightened by my new eating habits and my unwillingness to eat processed foods where they can be easily avoided - and I got a round of applause for listing the contents of my gadget - cupboard for them yesterday - but yours is truly fantastic!!!!0 -
...I bought my steamer (in chrome) from Argos for 49.99, also checked the JLewis website and they are selling it in the Grey plastic for 39.99 which is always cheaper, I work near JLewis so popped in in my lunch today for a nose and could not believe it they are selling it in the chrome for 24.99!!! but they dont have it on the website at all! I dont know whether it is a nationwide thing or not0

What other gadgets can you buy for a dolls house these days? Truly amazing! :rotfl:0 -
My loving husband mentioned that we should get a steamer as I plan to start going completely au natural with veg instead of buying the frozen stuff. I don't care what anyone says fresh veg tastes better! Thing is I've never used a steamer in my life could someone give me the run down on how you use them and if they're worth it? Also if anyone knows anywhere that sells them on the cheap I'd be appreciative!

Hi - I swear by my steamer....but it's not a 'plug-in' one, but a kind of 3 tier saucepan thing that goes directly on the hob (I'm rubbish at doing links...sorry....I'm sure others will be able to explain what I mean!!)
You put your water in the bottom (and can cook potatoes in that water) then other veg in the other 2 tiers. My sister recently got one...and was mad that she'd never got one before...REALLY easy to use/wash etc!!!
Steamed fresh veg is much nicer than frozen (although I do still cook frozen peas/sweetcorn in the steamer!!)20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

I have the pan type steamer too, I did have an electric one but it was a right pain to clean so I gave it to a relative ( it's probably in her cupboard now LOL)
We got ours fro Argos in 1992, it is used nearly every day, the handles looked like they were going to break at one point so I dropped the menufacturer a line and they sent me 2 lots of new ones, one went on and the other is in reserve so it could last a long time LOL.0 -
I steam veggies all the time, and the best thing I ever bought was a plain old steamer pan - a thing that looked like a sauce pan, but with holes in it - from Asda. It fits over a normal saucepan, you put water in the bottom obviously and a big saucepan lid over the top. Bring an inch of water to the boil before you put the steamer on top. Try to find one of these before you fork out for an electric one. Everything cooks to perfection...broccoli in five mins, I even steam salmon in it. The only thing that doesnt steam well is carrots. The take forever, and go wrinkly. I put my carrots, chopped, in a bowl with a table spoon of water in the micro for eight mins, they cook better.0

I'm terrible with vegetables, but I'm now back into the habit of peeling loads of veg on Sunday and steaming them in my electric steamer (takes about 40 mins) and then saving some for about 3 days worths of dinners. And I just microwave them. I'm sure I lose some vitamins doing this, but some veg has got to be better than no veg.
I've also steamed rice in my steamer...you have to keep stirring it though, or the outside bits (or was it the inside bits) don't cook.
I've steamed chicken and salmon too. Potatos. Lots of things. But now I tend to just do veg as things do take a long time in the steamer.0
