I was pointing out that if you start a lot of threads you leave yourself open, it also comes across as selfish. But hey you asked for opinions, as usual, if you don't like them then don't ask .
You asked why do people get nasty at me and say that you have self analysed. However perhaps instead of the self-castigation you should re read your posts as they are very aggressive and also think about the fact that you do start a lot of threads about your issues, but offer help to others a lot less.
Ok apologies if it was not meant as being unpleasant it just pointed out mine and others points as to why things go the wrong way on forums..you saying about me making lots of posts is nothing to do with the question i posted really?
The only reason i am aggresive is when i get stupid/hurtful replies..for example in my job post one reply i got was that i was a 'srubber'..i'm supposed to not reply to that am i and if i do in a nice way..i don't think so.
I reply where i feel i can help rather than reply and old rubbish..unlike some!0 -

This is more than 10% of your total posts.
I also note you've been a member of the forum since 2006 so who knows what the real figure is as the forum only records the last 300!
That is actually an amazing amount! Just looked at my stats and I've started just 17 threads in the last 12mths
I have lots of questions?!0 -
I think you have just established why you may receive unpleasant replies - you get back what you give out!
Not really..i don't see the point of that comment. I also feel we go round and round and..well round in circles trying to out do each other which again was the point of this thread!! The matter in hand has not beenaddressed by some so of course i will comment on it.0 -
Lol ok doing to point out a typical point iv'e made and have a pick at something that someone has mentioned irrelevant to the siuation (if not just to stop the bore this has now turned into..!)
Looking at 4 people randomly and their posts that tally with the same joining date as me (and has taken me what 2 mins)..
person 1 13+ posts per day
person 2 12 posts per day
person 3 16+ per day
person 4 11+ per day
no names as sure that will spark something else off but just to prove a point..why does it matter how many posts i do? It's the responces i was talking about. Quite happy now as seems i'm behind with mine!0 -
Hi Gabyjane,
I've read through all of this thread and it sounds as if you're a little bit bored perhaps. (That is only my opinion, and not stated as fact, and not to be taken as fact.) Your reaction when patchwork cat added a reply was a tad OTT.
Don't take to heart what people on here say. Leave it where you found it, on the computer screen, and live real life for what it is, real life. Try not to obsess (sp?) over things too much. Find something to occupy yourself with, and you'll soon see how insignificant we are. Getting things into perspective can be a great help. for what it's worth, I don't think patchwork cat came across as unpleasant at all, I thought you did a little bit though, sorry.0 -
Gabyjane - the OP wasn't commenting on how many posts you've made but how many threads you've started in the last 12 months - I don't know how this correlates with the random people you've picked.
Their point (I think) was that you are more likely to get negative comments by starting a lot of threads than you are if you are just responding to other peoples threads.Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -
Hi not bored no just spend quite a bit of my spare time i have checking this site for various things! God help me in 3 weeks when i have no job during the day then my thread count will rocket!!
gill_81uk apologies i guess i meant thread..either way the amounts are the same when i looked at these other people. I agree you are more likely to get negative comments from people if you start more posts..my point was why do people have to be so extreme with it? I agree i don't always take the advice i'm given, can be argumentttive but i wouldn't say i am nasty unless provoked? (again if someone says i'm a 'scrubber' i'm bound to retalliate!!) At the end of the day like i said i take it with a pinch of salt as yes it's a pc not RL..thank god!!0 -

something gets posted on this bit of the board and answered quite sensibly and then some *helpful* board guide moves it to the arms and you can see the line...
you can feel an immediate change in the atmosphere and the answers suddenly start getting aggressive and stroppy like they are baiting you for a fight,
Agreed about the "helpful" moves:(
OP I too posted for advice here in my early days & was ripped apart by some replies & they did upset me.
A couple of reasons.....
One, I was a naive newcomer to internet forums & didn't really know how they worked - I assumed people would answer as if to your face:(
Two, you tell it in a nutshell & lots of the dynamics that are very important get left unsaid, the people answering don't know this background info as your friend might.
I was moved to tears as well, don't feel bad about it, maybe you needed the release if it tipped you over the edge.
Sometimes you strike lucky & get great responses to sensitive issues, but its Russian roulette as their are a lot of people prepared to put the boot in.
But on a positive note, lots of people on MSE are very wise & kind:)0 -

Basically one poster told me that newbies should ease themselves in gently to the forum. They are expected to be shy and retiring when they first join and not to question the views of other members.
Because I questioned those views they decided to call me a troll and AE whatever that is.......then the other names started. Thats why I remove all my posts every day now.
:(Thats no fun...i thought you were more thick skinned and confident...
Shame thatYou have the right to remain silent.Anything you do say will be misquoted and then used against you
Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.

But if someone quotes your post then it stays there presumably. Like this one.
If I had a problem that I considered to be serious and I posted it in good faith then I'd be slightly miffed if I got dodgy replies. But then to be honest there are other forums where I'd post say professional issues or running problems.
However, if you start a thread somehere like discussion time and you get mongy replies the solution is to stick them on ignore and just reply to the people you want to talk to. Easy peasy.0
