Cannot see why you are so annoyed with Next. They have done no more than reported fact. If they had told the CRA that you had made the payments on time, they would have been telling lies.
I would suggest your argument is with the lender who has refused to give you the loan.

The other thing to keep in mind is considering you want a loan / second mortgage / the like.

You've proved that you have "forgotten" to pay your Next bills for 1/4 of a year - despite the fact that they will have reminded you at some point and due to negligence on your part you won't have read this reminder.

How does the lender know that you won't "forget" to pay them? From their perspective how are they to know that their account won't be treated in the same manner.

They can't know this. If I were a lender and someone who is clearly not in a fit state of mind to deal with a credit account asked for another, I'd say no! Just as they should.

If you can't handle credit agreement A responsibly, there's every chance that you can't handle credit agreement B responsibly.

Like I said before, check my first post on page 1 for advice on where else to get financial and practical help - please :o

Edit - For NEXT to report the account as UP TO DATE during the months it was in ARREARS would be a BREACH of one of the Key Principles of the Data Protection Act and leave them open to severe backlash and fines and possibly even prosecution. For you to choose to become fixated on a company that is merely complying with the Data Protection Act, rather than the problem at hand (might be nice if you follow some advice we've written regarding where and how to get help), is not helping your mother get the most out of her last months. Is that what you want?

Speedbird 1973 - Er....which part exactly is absolute bullsh1t, where did I say late "payment" I said "payments" Should have gone to Spec Savers. As for missing 3mths, my 3rd payment was exactly one day late & as I wasn't living at home at the time I didn't receive any post. I think I live in a different world to you, maybe it's because I'm Italian, our parents are very loved, respected & special to us, thinking about a couple of £12 payments is the last thing that would be on our minds when they are critically ill.

I would hate to be the type of person who thinks "tough tits" in such a situation so at least you've made me feel very good about myself. My parents clearly did an excellent job of parenthood.

izools - Again, I wasn't living at home & if you call committing yourself to an extremely ill parent "negligent" so be it, I'm just glad to know my children will never see it that way.

As for my mortgage, I haven't missed a single payment in 20yrs, it is almost paid off & my mind is fine thank you. I have never owned a credit card & the only reason I ended up with a Next card was because they automatically set that up when you make an on-line order. I should have gone with my instincts at the time & cancelled it, but hey ho. You obviously, for whatever reason, deal with the world of credit a lot more than I ever have.

It was because I've never had to check, query or deal with any credit problems before that I was completely unaware of the damage a couple of late £12 payments would cause. I do realise, of course, the importance of paying your mortgage, as you can see from my good record.

And yes, I have managed to get advice on financial help, by a friend of a friend who deals with benefit law. We will be getting, what is worth, a few hundred pounds worth of benefit a week, courtesy of the British tax-payer. I was happy & prepared to pay for it myself but there you go. Does me a favour I guess.

EDIT: I suggest you learn what exactly a Goodwill Adjustment is. You seem to be under the impression I'm asking Next to lie on my behalf. That is NOT the case, & prosecuted, prosecuted for what ???? Are you suggesting that all those companies who have removed negative reports in exchange for payment are acting illegally ?

And I am not fixated on anyone, how do you know what advice I have or have not been taking. However, I do find it rather puzzling that a number of posters on here (not all, some have been very courteous) who are clearly perfect in their lives & their financial set-ups who have never been shocked with a major crisis that has caused unexpected difficulties, who think (& I stress think) they know all about Credit & Data Protection Law are wasting so much time of their lives, ie thousands of posts, on a credit forum. It does beg the question why. I guess some people have needs, a boost of superiority being one of them. Not for me I'm afraid, but then I have never suffered from any feelings of inferiority so don't have that need.

Anyway, thank you to the more pleasant posters, I appreciate your words. But now I have to get on with life, I wouldn't want to end up becoming fixated with credit forums

    Ciao e buona fortuna

It's a report on your ability to repay creditors, not on how you manage family life. Seriously, just stop worrying about it.
  • I hope your mother is comfortable now, have you asked social services to come and make an assessment on her.

What about her property? Are you able to sell it and use some of the proceeds from the sale to pay for the adaptations? Just a few thoughts hun x

although you have your reasons you have failed to keep an account up to date for 3 months all be it 1 day for the latter it was still late.

next have done nothing wrong! they have done the right thing in reporting you to be bad with credit

3 late payments is a very serious mistake to make in this financial climate! and now your are paying the price....

Ok, everybody's agreed that Next absolutely had the right to record these late payments on the Op's credit record. However, it's a pretty poor company that is then subsequently unwilling to discuss any exceptional circumstances with a customer that may have resulted in those late payments, particularly taking into account a previously unblemished credit record.

If the Op's circumstances are true, and if the facility for a goodwill credit record amendment is available (and I presume the Op is correct in this) it is mean and petty minded in the extreme for Next not to at least consider making an adjustment in this case.

It's yet another example of the "Computer Says No" culture that exists in big business nowadays - you only have to read these forums or the national press to find daily examples where a little bit of discretion and customer care would have helped a company avoid the opprobrium and damage to their reputation that is brought about by negative publicity of this kind.

I'm sure it's all down to money at the end of the day - after all, it would cost Next time and effort to look at this case (and the other similar cases that it finds), but I'm sure I'm not the only one who is just a little bit sad that the concept of customer care has been thrown out of the window in the search for ever increasing profits.

So, what's the cost to Next here? Probably not a lot in real financial terms, but both the Op and a number of other posters (and countless lurkers) will be making up their own minds on whether to shop at Next again in the future - income not realised has the same overall effect on the balance sheet as expenditure at the end of the day.

i dont think any finace provider would delete them let alone next... regardles of circumstance! too many people lie to get things like this removed..

we do not know the op this could just be one of those 'i'll make up a sob story situation to get them removed' situations.

people are too quick to believe a sob story these days! is this not the real world? were you not brought up to except and deal with the mess you get yourself into rather than trying to fob your way out of it?

Have a bit of compassion - not everyone here is a troll and I prefer to take things at face value unless there is reason to think otherwise.

The OP was having to deal with a very stressful situation and the amount of debt is £36 - it's not even a debt as it's been repaid!

Your negative post is not helpful in any way, shape or form.
