I just want to say thank you for all your considerate posts, I was beginning to feel I had entered a very nasty world out there.
I will look into the free care, another round of enquires, the exhaustion is starting to get to me & thanks for the e-mail for next, I will send them a message also.
Many thanks.0 -
The other thing to consider is it shouldn't be you applying for the grants it is your mother, so even if they are means tested she clearly won't be in a position to be considered able and have the grants refused!
Also you should look in to carers allowance from the DWP.
Once the Next account is marked as settled on your file you may have more luck with a re-mortgage but TBH I think stick to what can be done from social care, (I'd dread to think how you'd feel if you spend her last hours arguing with a mortgage underwriter or telling the builders what to do):
. Mother applying for grant & Disability Living Allowance
. You applying for Carers allowance
. Helping her out with downstairs facility within budget; as others have mentioned a commode or similar
You can stipulate on the application forms that she has little time left and they will fast track your / her applications.
When my mother was bed bound and unable to get up the stairs she was assigned a home help and had banisters installed on each side of the stairs and beside the bath upstairs. About £20 in raw materials and two to three hours man hours.
I wish you the very best of luck with everything and hope that your employer is appreciative of the situation! And of course that the rest of your time with her are memorable in the best way possible
All the best

Sorry but the credit report needs to be factual - you missed the payments and other creditors have a right to know about it before they make a decision. There are other threads about gaining credit with a less than perfect credit history you might have to look into those.

It just goes to show that having a DD set up for the minimum payment on every single account can make a world of difference to ones life! A good suggestion, but not a resolution to this problem (setting up a DD that is)...Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I have to agree here, you missed the payments , they need to show that, however you could put "notice of correction" which explains what happened etc and the lender has to read it..... (doesnt meant it will change things though)For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
Yes, I know the credit report has to be factual ie creditors can't just make up stuff but also they do not & are not obliged, by law or by anything else, to put any information in, they do it purely by choice. Creditors own the information they put in & can do what they want with it.
A late payment does not have to stay on your report, that is not lying or being deceitful there is loads of information, good & bad, out there that people chose not to put on our report. No one "needs" to report anything.
Google "Goodwill Adjustments" you will see how common they are. If I owed Next thousands, funnily enough, I would be in a better position, as I would say "remove the late payment & I'll pay up" so they probably would. Lots of companies negotiate owed payments this way. Does that make their credit reports any less factual ?
Why doesn't my report say I have never owed anyone a penny in my life, that I have always paid my utility bills, my shopping, why, I've even given to the poor, none of that's on my report. Sorry, but they don't "need" to be factual. (as in containing even accurate information, there's no obligation to put anything in)
Unfortunately I've had to do a crash course in this & I've learnt. I now have to commence a crash course in benefits. Ironically, I presumed & was prepared to pay for ALL my mothers care costs, I had no intention or knew that I (or her) could claim anything. Now, thanks to Next & their heartless stubborness over £36 the public, the tax payer, will be funding us. Money that I'm sure is badly needed for those that can't pay.
Glad to see Next are supporting the NHS.
Oh, I forgot during the time I was pleading with Next over this not once did they contact or reply to me, except once when they e-mailed me for £3.75 for a catalogue, which I paid, hours later they shut down by account & they still haven't informed me. But they made sure they got their £3.75 first.
Sorry, but my distress is now turning to anger, who the hell do these companies think they are ?0 -

They chose to show it as it is, it's harsh but it's true. Why doesn't my report say I have never owed anyone a penny in my life
You owed £36 in January.
Sorry to sound harsh but I think you need to move on from this, all the anger won't be doing you good especially with what you are already going through.0 -
Just playing devils advocate here, but are you absolutely 100% sure that the missed Next payments are the reason your re-mortgage was declined?
If you have plenty of equity and a good payment history this would seem a very petty reason to refuse yoou and if this is the case your mortgage provider is equally as guilty of being extremely petty as Next are.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I think this is disgraceful behaviour and will think twice before i give them any more of my business-personally i would be involving the press here-maybe Martin may help you-can anyone direct him to this post???
Here are some contacts at Next I would go right to the top and make a big fuss

Good luck and hope your mum makes the best of the time she has left with us x
Great advice, this is what I was going to suggest.
Good luck OP.0 -
Yes I am sure that is why, I've explained the reasons for the late payments but they won't shift on it, apparently recent late payments are one of the worse things you can have on your report whether it's for 50p or £50,000 it is treated the same. But I agree they are just as bad as Next.0
