Ah, it was a fleecy hat, scarf and gloves set for an auntie. Really nice quality too, so I was chuffed. :)

2p rounded off the bank balance and transferred to the e-saver today. :rotfl:

That present was such a bargain! I hope you had a nice long weekend with your family.

Since my car expenses all went on the credit card last month, I am now a woman on a mission to try to raise the money to pay for them without dipping into my contingency for all of it. It has brought some renewed effort into raising some cash and I think I will even get round to Ebay this weekend.

Don't know about you, but for me it is that depressing time of the month when I log into online banking and the list of direct debits coming out of my account scrolls off the screen! Hopefully all this effort will result in some cash coming in later in June to make the balance more healthy.

Have you any plans for the weekend? It's looking like a quiet one for me which will give me some much needed time to catch up with stuff at home.

    Best wishes

    Hi all

Not a good weekend at all unfortunately, we had to call an ambulance for my Mum on Sunday as she was taken very ill, very suddenly. She's still in hospital in this area, is doing OK, but it is going to be a long road to recovery. They are running lots of tests to try and determine the root of the problem, fingers crossed they find the answers we need.

Needless to say, we haven't been concentrating on much else this past week.

    I'll update when I can,

Times are still stressful at the moment, but I'm doing my best to be as 'DFW' as possible.

I've done quite a few more surveys and have reached payout level, so there's a £10 Amazon voucher on its way to me which I shall use towards buying something for hubby's birthday next month.

The bank account has been rounded off most days and the odd pennies have been transferred to the bank account. There's £18 in there now.

I haven't had chance to ebay anything yet but I will do so when things are better.

Mum still in hospital and am going twice a day to see her. Yesterday was not such a good day, let's hope today is a better day.

I hope today proved to be better, as you had hoped. I know you don't want to say too much about your Mum's condition to maintain privacy and anonymity, so I will keep this in general terms. She had been better for a while, I think due to a new treatment. Is the treatment now causing side effects or is the recent downturn unrelated? Either way, I hope she progresses well. I know how hard and frustrating it is to get answers if you have a relatively uncommon illness as the medical profession just don't have the experience or knowledge to give clear advice which you hope for and everyone else just assumes will be forthcoming.

Perhaps the surveys are a good mindless diversion! You must be tired with the hospital trips. So good news about reaching payout. I seem to have been close to payout on a few sites for a while, so must be due some vouchers soon for all these energy company and washing powder comparisons!

    Take care xx

    Hi all

Chocs - no, it wasn't down to new treatment, but it seems, a possible oversight about how two different drugs interact with each other. My darling Mum had a stroke. Not for the first time either, but hopefully this is the last time this will happen. She is doing well now and has learnt to walk and use her arm again. She really is inspirational - her determination and courage is absolutely astounding, if I have inherited 10% of her will and dertemination then I will be ok in life. Hopefully, she will be out of the hospital at the weekend; it will be a long road to full recovery (if full recovery is possible) but she will do her best to get there. The autoimmune disease she has certainly has not helped the situation and, unfortunately, increases her risk of things like this, but we hope and pray it will not happen again.
We are not an overly religious family, but yesterday Mum and I stumbled across the hospital chapel whilst walking up and down the corridor to help with her therapy. We went in and Mum sat and said her thanks for recovering, as did I, albeit silently. I nearly lost it and almost broke down there and then but managed to regain my composure. The last thing Mum needs is to see me stressed and upset, it would distress her which we don't need at the moment.

We also had some more sad news this morning, a member of our extended 'in-law' family passed away after a battle with cancer. It's so, so sad. This person was a fine fellow, jolly and always managed to make anyone raise a smile. Life is cruel at times.

    I also have other news.......

    I'm 6 weeks pregnant.

We have yet to tell anyone else, and are not planning to do so until we've had a first scan to determine if everything's ok. None of our friends or family need any more heartache this year, so we are going to wait and see how things go. We are very happy, yet terrified at the same time. I do have moments of "I'm too young" and then remember I'm actually not anymore now that I'm in my 30s!
This does mean, however, that we will be unable to overpay our loans and it is probable that we will have to leave them to run their full course, pushing our debt free date back by another 3 years or so, but we'll just have to live with that. All being well, we shall be clearing the sainsburys card in a couple of weeks and then spending the next 7 months or so stashing £400 a month away into a savings account so that we can afford maternity leave. I'm not sure how we will manage once I have to go back to work with regards to childcare etc., but we will just have to manage. I'll worry about that later.

So, there's quite a thorough update for you all - and remember, Mum's the word. Literally!

    Hi DFSD,

Firstly, I was so sorry to hear of the news of your Mum being taken to hospital and it is good to hear that it sounds like she is again on the road to recovery.

I also offer my condolences regarding the loss of your extended family member.

I understand you not telling your family the news just yet but I do want to wish you congratulations. You are right not to worry about the loans - they are affordable for you in that you are easily managing your monthly payments and I am sure childcare etc. will all fall into place.

    ((Hugs to you))
