Whilst I'm here can I ask a bit of advice too? We're trying to bf but he's really struggling with the latch and becomes so frustrated and angry and screams blue murder, til he then gives up and goes to sleep. I've been expressing and cup feeding but it's just not enough for him so I've given him some formula tonight (formula mixed with enough tears from me to fill a river!), is it beneficial to still carry on expressing and mixing? MW in the hospital told me this was stupid and I was just as well totally formula feeding if I was 'giving up' :(
Just saw this when tigs quoted it. All breastmilk is beneficial. If you gave one breastfeed and never did again, that would give benefits over never doing it. Whether you give your baby 90% breastmilk or 90% formula any breastmilk that you are giving is beneficial. Obviously the more you give the more benefit they get from it but giving formula does not cancel out the benefits of any breastmilk you have given or do give. I had a midwife who acted like the 7oz of formula we had given completely defeated the point of breastfeeding in the first place but this is totally not true - my best guess is that this is their way of "encouraging" you to fully breastfeed.

I apologise unreservedly. I did not intend to imply anything, and apologise that I did. I apologise completely for the shameless attention seeking.

Hmmm, but who else has met either Beenie or Susan? They could BOTH be builders named Dave!

Oh, forgot to tell you all, Amber has cracked drinking from a sippy cup (the free TT one you get from the HV) :D She looked really excited when she worked out that if she closed her mouth and sucked, she got more juice! Then she screamed ta me when I took it off her.
