where I work the healthcare assistants do them.

You have pads attached to your chest, ankles & possibly bicep. Its not painful, doesn't take long and the ECG is transmitted down the phone line to a compnay that read the ECG and send a report back.

Is it to do with your BP?

They'll stick some stickies to your chest and side (wearing a button down shirt minimises exposure) and attach them to a machine that looks a lot like the CTG foetal monitor you have when pregnant. It will spit out a long tape that measures your heartrate and you will have little red welts on your chest for about twenty minutes or so afterwards. It doesn't hurt but you have to stay still and it's dull.

How long it lasts depends on what they're looking for.

    Does that help?

Edit: Ooooh, Glam, it's different in a GP surgery? How interesting! We do them on inpatients so maybe my input isn't useful. Sorry Keely :(

Hi, thanks for your replies. Yes, it's to do with my bp. I'm kind of glad i'm being sent to hospital next week, get a second opinion and see what the doctors there think. I've been put on tablets already, but if they don't do anything (like last time) I won't be too happy. I'm being sent for the usual blood tests tomorrow morning too.

My mom has done something to her ankle now, so i had to go there after the doctors and my dads asked me to go tomorrow (after blood tests) to help her out as she can't get around without being in agony :(

So i'm just a bit tired and got things running through my head.
