Hello. I need help with my PC problem. I start my computer normally and login to my user name. After around 2 minutes, an error message appears followed by a bright blue screen with the following message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your comouter. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the drive or check with the manufactrurer for the driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode,

contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
This problem happens everytime I start my computer. My disk space is adequate as i have over 50gb free. I am working of my laptop at the moment. My computer is a Dell dimension 8300 using windows Xp. Any help would be great.
Thank you very much.

hi there, how long has this been happening for?
Have you added any software hardware recently0 -
Seems like you may need to reinstall your drivers for your video card or use compatible ones that are not beta and passed the WHQ test.0

The problem has occured for around the last 2 weeks. I dont know how to update the driver. I cannot access internet off my PC and I haven't got a CD to update the video card driver. Any more ideas?0

go into safe mode
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
try the option for last good configuration
if that does not work then go into the option just called "safe Mode" and try going back to a date when the PC lasted worked by using system restore
I suspect Nortons to be the problemEx forum ambassador

Yeah i've still got the CD for it. But i've tried that and it doesn't let you uninstall it in safe mode. I cannot uninstall it in normal mode because the PC will restart within around 2 mins of logging on. Cheers0 -

Once you've unistalled the drivers, reboot, then goto http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
and install their drivers till you can find some new ones that won't be a pain in the backside.0 -
does that 2 minutes give you time to get online ??
if not then the above post in no use
you may need to locate the drivers for the video card on the Dell support site and put them on CD, then update the drivers from CD

you need the TAG number from the PC
Find your Service Tag
Entering the service tag of your Dell computer or peripheral helps Dell deliver solutions tailored to the products you own. Your Service Tag is a unique five- to seven- digit alphanumeric (letter and number) code, which is found on a white bar-coded label affixed to your Dell computer or peripheral.
