One question....would email be thought of as providing the relevant info in 'writing'. Things are usually a bit foggy round here on that issue (IT company)
I should think an email would be fine, at least you'd have a copy on your computer plus details of date and time sent.0 -
Folic acid helps with spinal development so taking whilst trying to get pg is recommended as it can take a few weeks to start getting the benefit from it, therefore if you are 6-8 weeks when you find out and start taking it, you would only be getting the benefit for it for 2-3 weeks, as you only need to take it for the first trimester (12 weeks).
I'm taking the Boots own version, can't remember how much it cost, but I buy it when they are on 3 for 2 which is regular these days.
Best of luck0 -
Taken from my Queen Charlottes Guide to Pregnancy and Birth (excuse typing mistakes!):
Folic Acid is one of the B group vitamins and research has shown that it plays an important role in ensuring that the fertilised egg implants in the uterine wall, in maintaining the pregnancy and in the correct formation of the foetus' cells. If your diet is defficient, you can become anaemic and your chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby may be compromised (folic acid deficiency has been linked with an increased risk of spina biffida).
Its found in green leafy vegetables eg. spinach, cabbage which should feature regularly in your diet anyway as they contain many other vitamins and minerals and are a good source of fibre.
You should take folic acid supplements whilst trying to conceive and duringthe first three months of pregnancy. If you are pregnant, you can ask if oyur doctor will prescribe folic acid.
I just bought the Sanatagen Pro Natal capsules, but they weren't cheap (and tbh i forgot to take them at all during my second and third pregnanciesso I'm not the best person to ask
).
You could try Healthy Direct or one of the other mail order supplement companies, as they can be quite good value (and they often have special offers).
So in reply :rotfl:, yes folic Acid does help with the correct development of the neural tube."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
its my due date today! no signs of anything happening yet though.0

I'm using the Sanatogen stuff....makes me more comfortable eating what I like. I don't worry about making sure I'm eating enough of that vegie, or fruit. I know the vitamins all go in, so I can eat what I feel like rather than worry about things too much.
It has helped me to relax about things a bit more. Would definately take them again, especially considering my downs results came back at a staggering 6200 to 1 (high considering I'm 29)Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.

I've just been thinking. I could get pregnant by next week, but then you have to wait to week 20 to have a scan! That is soooo long away. Isn't the suspense too much to bear? Or do you just get on with life as normal?:wall:0

In my area week 12 seems to be the norm.
