As the title says - cannot believe that I have gone so far over. Am getting really nervous about having to stay in hospital. (silly I know!) Can't wait to finally meet baby though. :o

I was exactly the same about the hospital as I like my privacy and home luxuries, but it really wasn't bad at all. As Agutka says, you won't be able to take your eyes off your gorgeous little bubba anyway and it is reassuring to have the midwives around too. Good luck, your baby's going to be here very soon whichever way it happens :D

Ooooh, you are going to have a lovely babe to cuddle day after next then !!

Good Luck. I was induced and would do it all over again, given the choice.

Please do tell more! I really don't know what to expect.

My MIL said dh was induced (30 years ago lol!) and after three days on a drip she still showed no signs of being in labour!!!!!!!! That's why I'm not looking forward to being in hospital - after babe is born, I don't mind so much - unless I have a dreaded C section! In my mind I was going in tomorrow night, having babe on Thursday morning, home Friday morning AT the latest! :o

I have never spent a night apart from dd (nearly 4) so that's on my mind too.
Thanks for all your kind words though.

both my best friend and sister were induced within the last 2 years. my mate was brought in at 9pm on a tuesday night and she had her little boy on the wednesday morning at 11am. my sis in on 9pm monday night had her little girl at 9pm the tuesday night - my sister had three pessaries i remember the doctor saying most women get really started after 1 pessary and they will not give you any more than 3 pessarys. they had two very different labours - so i guess it just depends - my friend had a lovely labour and she had her little boy in the bath. thats about all i know but im sure others will be along soon with some first hand info for ya!

Ditto everything you mention including dd1 who was nearly 4 when dd2 was born. And I had to have the dreaded c section. Honestly, the stay in hospital was absolutely fine. I did come home on day 3 though, which was maybe a little early as I did exactly what you're not supposed to and couldn't help myself running around after dd1, tidying, light chores etc, but didn't want to be away from them for too long. If it's your second and you are desperate to go home (and no problems obviously), they do tend to let you out when you want - even after a section within reason. Think they want the beds emptied! ;)

Also, edited to add, that I know various women who've been induced and all had different experiences. Much the same as all the varying descriptions of childbirth that you hear. I think it very much boils down to luck of the draw.

Incidentally, what happened with your dd? Induction? Late arrival? Straightforward delivery?

my friend had 2 inductions - both times her waters had to be broken for her and on neither time did the pessaries work well. The first baby she had with only gas and air even though it was a forceps delivery but the second despite it being only a 4 hour labour was so painful she had an epidural towards the end, she wishes she'd had it earlier - I've read since that that pain of induced birth is much worse than 'natural' birth so be prepared to go for an epidural early on if you're struggling. Both babies were fit and well and are absolutely adorable.

I had DS 1 5 days early. He was not induced.

With DS 2, I was induced 8 days early for convenience (long story). Went in late afternoon, first p (thingie) at midnight, 2nd at 4am and only periodic contractions from 6am, so OB put in third at 7am (really deep, if you know what I mean). Labour progressed smoothly and DS was born 3 hours later, in a little bit of a rush....

Basically I think that it really boils down to how near 'real' labour you really are, as to whether it takes easily or not. I did not have a drip.

I was discharged following day (again for my convenience), which was early compared to the norm in my old country.

Thanks for all the advice re early scans. Unfortunately none will be needed as early miscarriage confirmed on Monday (started Sunday). I know it was only 5 weeks, but am still a bit up and down, as is DH. Can't believe so much has happened in the space of a week. Going to wait until after next period and start trying again, same method (temping) as before, and hopefully we will make it next time. In case anybody is wondering/worried, it was quite obvious what was happening straight off, and all symptoms (which had been very strong, which makes it worse in a way because I felt SO pregnant) disappeared very quickly, so not all scares end up this way. Congrats to everybody else still going and hopefully I'll be back on the EDD list again soon (and not being so sure of my dates at the doctors that I won't be considered for an early scan!)
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
