As for work, when you're a little further on and bit more comfortable with the idea, perhaps you could have a quiet word with a mum you work with who has already told the boss, or speak to HR first for a bit of moral?
I work in a very small business which has just gone through a really bad experience with another employee's pregnancy (the employee was really obstructive and difficult, and took a pretty rotten attitude towards the rest of us when she was pregnant, and even took legal advice throughout as if we were going to try and endanger her or something!). I also face hazards at work so I will need my boss to be aware of what I can and can't do pretty soon. He's going to hit the roof - hopefully I'll be able to reassure him that I am still committed to the job and that I don't intend to make his life difficult ...

Thanks for the welcome - I'm so excited!
  • Hi everyone, just thought I'd let everyone know I'm back after two weeks of no broadband (Netservices grrrrrrrrr). I saw Doctor about tiredness and thirst but bloodtests all came back fine so he said it must just be pregnancy. Am still being sick at 18 weeks so midwife phoned hospital to see if I could be given anything but they said I could only have something if I was dehydrated which is highly unlikely to happen given the amount I am currently drinking. Am just hoping it'll improve before the baby comes a) so that I actually have a chance to get ready for it coming and b) because my poor husband is almost as tired as me through working full time and doing all the house work and looking after me.

You hang in there! And ask you doc for something against the sickness - in fact you should demand it! I was awfully sick with my last one, and my GP gave me something for the sickness. I couldn't very well keep being sick all the time, as I would end up actually losing weight (not really a good thing when you're pregnant). I tried a couple of different meds, but ended up with something called Stemetil, which they apparently use to treat morning sickness in the 1st trimester, so it was ok to take in the last one too.

And isn't it just great when hubby chips in? Makes you feel so appreciated and cared for - at least that's the case with mine!

    Hello

My wife is 4 months pregnant and it is her birthday in 8 days time. I was wondering if you could give me some ideas of what to get her and where to get it from?

I was thinking a maternity pillow, a pregnancy book (although we have plenty of these), maybe a lavender stick which she can open and inhale when a nasty smell comes her way.

    Many thanks
    Rob

I'd say all those are great ideas! Especially the lavender stick. Maybe some "time vouchers", you know, promise to do the hoovering, or drive you the 46 miles to that deli where she can get that craving-food, something like that. A nice maternity top would also probable go down well, specially since she's about to start showing soon (or has already) and something nice to dress up in for christmas and parties should be a hit. Otherwise something pampering, like luxurious bath stuff, a nice huge soft thick towel - bath sheets are good - her favourite perfume, even a gift voucher for a pedicure or manicure. I know these are the things I would have wanted for my birthday all three times I have been pregnant - never actually got them, but still wanted them.

Congratulations on the pregnancy! Enjoy it, this can be such a magical time for a couple.

    Hi Robhav

I was about 4 months pregnant on my birthday and the last thing I wanted was something to do with my pregnancy! For once I just wanted it to be about me and not the baby. It was only for one day!

The pampering ideas are just great and she'll really appreciate the time out. I suppose it depends what she feels like, everyone's different. Bonus points for ingenuity as far as getting ideas goes though!!

Good luck with the present hunt :T

The Sanctury Mum-To-Be range of toiletries smell gorgeous. I've dropped plenty hints for Christmas! If she likes soaking in the bath and pampering herself, I think she would like these.

You can buy it from Boots, but they are among the baby toiletries and not with the other adult toiletries.
Here I go again on my own....

Just to let you guys know I told my boss who was totally wonderful - he laughed cos he was worried I'd come to tell him I was handing in my notice! I got a big hug and told not to worry about anything, so I can sit back and enjoy this now - yay!
