Vodafone - Data and Picture messages not part of Extra Packs from 1/9/06

I just received a SMS from Vodafone saying that Picture messages and data (GPRS) will not longer be part of Extra Packs from 1/9/06.

I searched the Vodafone web site but couldn't see anything.

The Extras pack is defined as a number of SMS messages.

Previously it was possible to use picture messages (equivalent to 4 SMS I think) using the allowances from the extras pack. Data calls were also deducted from Extras pack.

    This will be rubbish. I have a PDA/phone and use data quite a bit - I got a "free" £30 (costs £14 normally) extras pack with my last contract renewal. If this does happen and I start incurring data charges for any use, I will be downgrading and hopping over to T-Mobile for Web N Walk as quick as I can.

    By the way I haven't received any texts about this - does anybody have more details whether it affects all tarrifs, or just new connections etc.?

    I've just called Vodafone CS who confirmed the change claiming that the "vast majority" of customers wanted texts rather than data and mms.

    There will be no data bundles available and any data used will be charged at £2/Mb

    Got a figure for terminating my contract (after moving to the lowest possible tarrif) - I'll be moving to T-Mobile Web N Walk!

    That's really just rubbish. I signed up for another 12 month contract with them on the basis that they threw in an extras pack and it would include data and picture messaging.

    Is this a change in terms and conditions that would result in you being able to cancel the contract? There was a recent thread on this with O2 changing the price for 07744 numbers...

    I read on another forum that if you can prove the change has increased your bill by more than 10% then you can cancel your contract with Vodafone immediately at no cost to you!!! Check your T&C's.

    It may be that you are in a very good position if you can cancel your contact and walk about with a new phone with out having to stay the length of the contact.

    I upgraded to some V630's on Vodafone last week, but sent them back on Monday as I decided I wasn't happy with the deal. On Tuesday I received the TXT from Vodafone about the change.

    If only I had kept the phones and then I could of cancelled the contact and kept the phones. Unbelievably bad timing!!!! :mad:

    I am now going to goto O2 as I believe they still offer MMS as part of your TXT allowance although data calls are charged for.

    Tmobile is not as option as I don't get good reception at home.

    The T&C's usually say that if the change means the rise in your bill is greater than the Retail Price Index then you can cancel your contract. You can only usually do so within so many days of being notified of the change.

    Per the Voda website T&C's:

    8) Ending of this Agreement
    a) You may end this Agreement immediately by writing to us if:-
    • we do not do what we have to do under this Agreement and do not put it right within 7 days of being asked in writing to do so;
    • all of the Services are permanently no longer available to you;
    • we increase the monthly (or other periodic line rental charge under clause 7a) and such increase (calculated as a percentage) is more than the increase in the Retail Prices Index Figure ("RPI", also calculated as a percentage) for the period from the month of the last increase (if any) to the month before we send the notice of the change in tariffs and you write to us before the increase takes effect. If we increase the monthly (or other periodic) line rental charge by more than the increase in the RPI we will tell you; or
    • during the Term
    i) we increase in the United Kingdom and under clause 7a, call or other usage charges which have the effect of increasing your call or other usage charges by more than 10% or the increase in RPI calculated as in 8a above (which ever is the greater) based upon your previous call or usage pattern;
    ii) you write to us before the increase takes effect.

    does this apply to what you people are talking about.

    taken from terms and conditions
    Try Me Bundles and Extras Packs

    24. Try Me bundles will be subject to change at Vodafone’s discretion.

    the wording only states try me bundles can be changed.
    i ask this as i asked several times when renewing my 4 contracts last week and was told i could use my text bundle anyway i chose.
