You know one of the things I love about this thread is that if we were on a parenting site or somewhere we would probably all be pulling each other to pieces in defence of our own styles and choices yet on here we are all really supportive and getting on with each other.
The good bits of someone elses lives are theirs to celebrate and to share and that doesn't mean they are putting down anyone else lives, experiences or choices.
Sheloveshimsomuch's post was a useful contribution as sometimes it can be as hard to know what to do with a child who is ahead in one area as it is with one who is behind in an area.

ps not that I believe in all this being behind or ahead stuff.“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Thanks Jo - that's really helpful - it's becoming a bit clearer now
You've given me other duck-related ideas that i can use for the blog too. I think it'll be something i enjoy doing when i get the basics right. THANK YOU! You're the dribble thread's official innovator! X

I dont really know where or why it was done, it was just "you should remember that not all children are brilliant like your son obviously is so you shouldn't show off about it because you will hurt people's feelings"
I am so proud of him, he has certain problems due to Aspergers syndrome but I wouldn't change him for the world. Isn't it a mum's right to show off now and again?Virtual sealed pot challenge 2010 member #48~ £72.62:)£10,000 in 2010~ £1177.36/£10,000:DMember of Team CBFM

ha ha Jo's jealous....only kidding!!
You are right, it is hard... My DS is going to be 6 at the end of May and is way ahead of the other children in his class. There are seven kids in the class ranging from 4 1/2 to 7 (Key Stage 1), he is more than ready for KS2 work but because of the stupid rules on education he has to complete each year regardless of his ability (there are special needs kids in the class too who could do with staying back a bit because they need the help and support).
I dread to think what would happen to him if he was in a bigger school, he certainly would be getting the support he needs....
Oh, and nice bit of info.... the term 'Special Needs' is not just for children with below average ability or disabled kids.... it actaully means gifted children too!
I do struggle with him because he is so bright, to bloody quick with his mouth too!
She loves.... you should be proud, whether he has other problems or not. I am proud of my son, as is every other parent all for different reasons. I know children with problems such as dyslexia, aspergers, mild leraning difficulties etc... so I am more than aware of other peoples feelings regarding their kids and none of the parents I know are upset when I tell them about my son's reading ability. They are pleased for me as I am for them when their child is excelling or managing to get on top of something that has been a problem for them.
Never be upset that your child is not as good at something as anothers.... they will often be better at other things...
My DS can sit a read a book, he cannot for love nor money say domino properly (comes out at donimo!) nor can he co-ordinate his arms and legs.... hes good at some things and rubbish at others... just like the rest of us!

Think I must have missed Sheloveshim post but every parent should be proud of their kids and no-one has the right to upset any of our dribblers- watch out whoever it was ...Amber and Mabel have whips...
Have you reported it Sheloveshim? You should post it on here as the person was obviously to cowardly to answer on here . Let us see what a chicken we are dealing with .
Anyhooo protective rant over :-)0 -
I think it's clear from your comment that you were actually being supportive and that there was never any intention to hurt anyone's feelings. I think they may be being a tad over-sensitive, but that's not your issue. Sorry if that sounds harsh to anyone.Just £10,852.28p to go...

Whoever wrote to you about your son obviuosly is very small minded. If they are not proud of their children no matter what is wrong with them or what they have done wrong there is something very wrong with their relationship with said child. I for one would love to be a mum and I guarantee the day that I do adopt I will be the proudest mum in the world for the rest of my life, regardless of what my future children do!
Rant over

I'm sure it was not a regular here, just some troll who likes to try destroying the camaraderie of threads like this. They are best ignored. If they come back we'll just drown them in a sea of dribble. And just to annoy them further, I'm still proud of the fact that I was a very advanced reader and into adult fiction by the time I was 10. Can you imagine today's 10 year olds voluntarily picking up Brave New World and 1984?0 -
I agree actually if I call it something gothlike then it limits my market somewhat I guess I could specialise in the goth stuff but offer a bespoke service to tailor any wedding.0

Yes thats what happened with my son, he was put on the gifted and talented register before they diagnosed him with Aspergers (not that I am suggesting for one minute that your son has Aspergers!!) but if it had have been a bigger school I wonder if he would have been lost in the system. I found it hard to give him books to read that were still age appropriate if that makes sense?Virtual sealed pot challenge 2010 member #48~ £72.62:)£10,000 in 2010~ £1177.36/£10,000:D
