first thoughts if it were my two would be to lock them in the kitchen where the litter trays are in the passage and keep an eye on who does what, definitely lock them out of any rooms where you dont want them messing
Ive put litter in downstairs loo and tried keeping them out of kitchen/utility and bedrooms cause Im sorting stuff for ebay in utility and am paranoid they go in there
Its hard work and DD is scared they get in her room as one peed in her cupboard:mad:
She loves the cats especially the queen and it used to cuddle up on her bed till we found the pee in the cupboard now its banned0 -
is the boy cat nuetered how old is he sometimes they spray and the pee will smell really stronglySo finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x0

My opinion - you need to clean the areas they have "been" in before thoroughly. Their noses are really keen so you need to use something to get rid of the smell - I've had bicarbonate of soda recommended, and also biological washing powder, though I've not tried the second one. Then, once it's cleaned, you need to put their food where they were going - they don't like to mess where they eat. After a while they will forget about that place and hopefully use their trays. Oh, and make sure their trays are cleaned out every day.
I'd say that the female is unsettled - maybe you could keep them in separate areas of the house when you are not around to supervise?
I would have to leave food in every room though and my greedy lab would be badly
I was sorting paperwork and had put rubbish in carrier one of them peed in it so I cleaned area with disinfectant and bleach
next day they had sneeked in and peed in the same place
I keep litter clean
Is it a territorial thing
I wish he had not got the tom but it was living in factory he was working at and he heard people threatening to shoot it so fetched it home
To be honest its been a nightmare and cost a fortune with 2 dental ops and recently a £200 op for thyroid
The queenie is v healthy but tiny0 -

Hello all, hope that everyone is ok and making cash toward their target!
I have been sooo busy.
I have just done my first (small) fair with my sweets / wedding favour business, well really, my little sis did most of the work. It went well.
Website is not yet finished - Mr Site, eek. It will be thesweetbasket in an UK .etc
However, I do have a new blog started which I have put in my profile. I have invited any facebook people, including the lovelies here on my fb, to join the fb group I have started up for the business. FB group has some pics from the fair in. I hope to add in some more content soon, its just finding time to put it together that's the problem.
Oh, we settled the name for the business after a lot of helpful suggestions from you on one of the earlier threads. Let me know what you think of the name / fb group / blog.
Hugs to all who need one, and to those who just fancy one! xx truly1373/100000 -
Peeing in inappropriate places is usually down to one of two things - the litter tray is not clean enough for the cat's liking, or territorial marking. I had this with one of my foster cats who was more dominant than my own cat, and had to ban foster kitty from the bedroom as she kept peeing on the bed.
Really you need to work out which cat is doing it, and the cause. If it's the tom, it is probably him trying to take over. Would it be possible to separate them? I wouldn't have the heart to throw the poor old man out. If it's the queen, she may be too scared to use the tray. Do they have one each? Could you put those in separate places?
There is also a plug-in called Feliway, don't know if it's available in UK but try vets or pet shops, that is supposed to calm cats.0 -

The litter tray is cleaned thourogly and disinfected and new litter every 2 days at least sometimes everyday cos I go mad about smell, and it is scooped regularly
I suspect its both cats,I think he started it trying to be dominant and now shes reacting to that
Ive had cats before and never had this bother but I only ever had one at a time
I wouldnt hurt the boy cat but have wanted to find him a new home OH wont let me
Its just hard work
i have caught him chasing her and shes been swarking with fear
It would be difficult to seperate them and I did have 2 trays but they both used them
now I have to confine them to one area as I am at the end of my tether
They dont like to go outside either and if I put them out they lurk outside the door waiting for it to open so they can sneak back in,or sit and stare me out on the windowsill
Its eaier having kids0 -
just a thought - maybe the trays are cleaned too thoroughly with disinfectant that the cats are not sure where to go ? (meaning the disinfectant is cancelling out the "litter" smell of the trays)
i've got two trays with paper underneath and clean the poo out an hour or so after they done one (i give it long enough to stop smelling yack) and i clean the wee out morning and night and its not a case of just pick wee up .. i tip good stuff back in to the bucket and then scrap wee in to their dustbin and then put fresh litter back on, the trays get a disinfect maybe every 2-3 months
i did used to have a problem with old cat missing the edge of the tray and peeing on wall/paper but solved that by putting less litter down, only have the odd accident now maybe once a month0 -
One of the culprits
The boy cat
Also has a strange habit of licking plastic bags
Only just started disinfecting trays and the problems been going on for a while0 -

I wasn't suggesting you would! I do think that if nothing works then rehoming him may be the answer. He might need to be an only cat.
As Cally says, the trays may be too clean - apparently if they are cleaned too well too frequently, the cat doesn't identify it with a place to toilet. Remove solids daily, replace the litter when it's soaked, but only clean thoroughly once every two weeks.0
