Oh bless, thank you all! :) just think I ought to be a bit more productive, seem to be doing a lot of pootling about lol. Good luck with getting stuff done everyone, girls have both gone for a nap already so I'm off to get stuff made. Jo, I might ask my friend as she could possibly have them, think it will be good to get the experience from volunteering, thanks :) she does always say she's happy to have them but you know what it's like, you don't like to ask!
Evenstar, totally agree about the alan carr book, I stopped by using that and it really works - it basically tells you the truth, and stops you being brainwashed by the tobacco companies. my OH refuses to try it as he says he 'doesn't believe in it, and therefore it won't work'; I think if he started reading it he'd get it, but hey ho! xx

Evenstar - I think you should always charge what you are worth. There is no point stretching yourself to create something that you won't make any profit off of. After all, if she won't buy I am sure that there are plently of others who will pay. I think $20 is bloody cheap as chips considering that this is handmade!
Also re the smoking - willpower I think we have the Alan Carr book at home somewhere we got it free with the Independent I think.

Mambury - I enjoy it too, the toughy is going out with friends for drinks as someone, somewhere always wants to smoke!

Jo - the smilie machine always makes me smile :)

Evenstar that the problem might be that she has seen what you are charging on etsy and that she could get a whole album for $30 dollars plus postage.
Could be that you are in that stage where you are starting to realise you are underpricing yourself but still have places that show those low prices so people may compare your quote against the prices in your shop when deciding on value.
So it may be that if your albums were more expensive than she would have been happy to pay that price for 2 pages but when she sees what is available for $30 she feels she is being charged more.
whereas if you were charging $40 -50 for an album then $20 for 2 pages might seem more reasonable.
So I don't think that your 2 pages are not worth it just that it seems more expensive than your album pricing if that makes sense.

Paula we all like to do things that make us feel we are contributing, helping etc. Take your friend up on her offer as she may get just as much from it as you do. if you are happy with how she is with your kids then go for it. just make sure she can let you know if it is starting to be a burden for her and then enjoy your volunteering.

Is anyone registered s/e as an ebay seller? How much do you have to earn/pay yourself a week to keep the HMRC/WTC bods happy?!
  • Thanks Jo thats more or less what she said
Trouble is Im worried if I up the price on the books they wont sell at all, and I love making them
Im begining to realise thtat they prob arnt best idea for money making lol
im a bit stuck as to what to do,the photos dont do them any justice either you really need to see them
I was thinking of my own website offering bespoke pages /albums as well as pre made
Also touting them round gift shops on a sale or return basis, then I have to make it profitable for shopkeeper
Time is an issue at the moment with the house move so maybe when Im settled I will start on a website
I may need some help with that

Evenstar I think its worth sitting down and pricing them to make a profit and then seeing if they will sell at that price before writing it off as a moneymaking idea.
Think its a great idea to take them round shops. people can see the quality for themselves and if you have some way of directing them to either your website or etsy shop then you may get repeat custom or recommendations.
I wouldn't give up on it as an idea but I would do some costings before taking it much further forward and then see if they will sell at the realistic price. you may be surprised and if not then you have some information to help you decide whether to take this forward for the love of it and small profit or to look for something else to focus on.
