£8K car Volvo, Audi, Mondeo, Vectra ?

If considering a Vectra then you really should look at Design and Elite trim levels - both offer more in the way of luxury with Elite being the very top of the range.
SRI is more the sports trim with stiffer suspension etc.0 -
in 20years as a vehicle techie working on all makea hondas rarely gave any problems, was told once by a senior iveco director that the problems with diesel injectors are the very fine tolerances used, uk diesel is apparently not very clean and ruins injectors (so he says) based on iveco dailys killing injectors every 60k costing £250 EACH
Sounds great that - they've designed a flawed product for the UK market and then blame the market conditions (fuel quality) they should've designed around for the failures. Top engineering there :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway, I SERIOUSLY doubt that UK fuel quality is worse than anywhere else - the BS standards are quite strict and as far as Unleaded goes most countries offer far lower quality fuels as their basic product with premium/super premium etc above it - "premium" 95 octane is the standard here and no lower is available....0 -

just passing on what i was told.
but then how do you explain diesel injectors failing so frequently:)0 -
I don't like the Audi A4 you can buy for this money, completely inept FWD system (poor traction, bad understeer, no feel) soundly beaten by Mondeo and Mazda 6.
I would go for Mazda 6, you'll get a facelifted version for your money that also comes with a much improved diesel engine. Beware of the 6 year 72,000 miles £796 service bill on these when the cam belt needs replacing, petrol versions this service is only around £250 as they have a chain (like most cars now).
Slightly more comfort oreintated and a supremely refined diesel is found in that 2.2 diesel Honda Accord. Not as entertaining to drive as the Mazda though.0 -

If your comfort means anything to you, choose the Volvo. Mondeos are foul things; about as uncomfortable as it gets. The Volvo, on the other hand, is like being in your favourite armchair.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I think for me the Honda just notches it, there are some pre-facelift diesels with low mileage and full spec, inc full leather, for my kind of money, it may not be a top "Marque" but for reliabilty, refinement, quality of finish, spec and overall running costs, it looks very hard to beat.
Many thanks.:beer:0 -

A very wise choice...Good Luck..;)0 -

Should add the Octavia to the shortlist especially if your looking at the VW and the Audi. Same diesel engine, same gearbox, only difference is the price.0

Ah, I suspect you have a Honda Accord, but bet you won't admit it since you enjoy no one knowing what you drive :rotfl:
I came very close to getting one myself, my joint No. 2 choice with the Mazda 6.... which my wife already has.
Good to see your Wife has a good taste in cars Adrian..
( only joking )..
