Hi as I said before we were in Sharm in May. The Hotel we stayed in did have a few American couples and they were treated brilliant. The Egyptian staff loved them and made them feel very welcome. Hope this helps.:D0

Check the FCO's website prior to booking a holiday or travelling for up-to-date information on terror threats, advice on local laws & customs etc...

If you dont want to try Sharm then what about Hurghada or Marsa Alam? We've been to both & hubby has dived at both of these places & enjoyed the diving there just as much as he did in Sharm. I preferred Hurghada to Marsa Alam. Marsa Alam is basically just a few hotels & you just stay in the hotel. Hurghada has a town you can look round, just depends what you want. Hubby normally books his diving with emporer divers, but has used Explorers when he went to Sharm. We booked our Hurghada hol through Panorama/ My travel & Marsa Alam through Portland direct. Explorers is always good value for last minute hols to Sharm.
I dont think you'll find anywhere under 5 hrs flight that will beat the diving in the red sea.

We went to Taba Heights last year and did some awesome diving. It is a little closer to Israel but it is less developed so the coral and undersea wildlife is less disturbed.
What I would suggest is NOT going on a diving holiday. All the hotels have, or are located near to a dive centre. The standard of accomodation at the dive centres are sometimes something to be desired.
We have also dived in Malta. Not as pretty as Egypt but closer and can be just as cheap.
Funkymum mentioned Hurghada. I went on honeymoon there and that is where i got my desire to learn to dive.
Enjoy your holiday and dont worry about the bombs. Anything can happen anywhere at anytime!:D:dance: "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
Looks like my friend isn't allowed to go to Egypt!
What's the next best thing to Egypt for diving? And for culture, places of interest, food etc..
I dove in turkey but didn't see anything spectacular like coral reef etc0 -

I really need your help!
My friend is definitely not allowed to egypt.
He has now suggested GOA. Anyone been there? Is it good for diving?
It is a 10 hour flight so I'm now looking at longer flights - anywhere that compares with egypt diving within around 10 hours?
I've also thought about florida - is it good for diving?
