I didn't realise about the basket policy! Once in poundland I did get a basket and it made for a terrible shopping experience! As the aisles are small and packed was a struggle getting past anyone with a basket! In the end I took the basket back and just walked out0

The legislation is only concerned with employment and training and has nothing at all in it pertaining to goods, services or facilities.

Yeah I know but it'll bring in a climate of awareness of age discrimination which isn't really ripe in the UK unlike other countries. Usually that awareness and protest precedes employment legislation (like with sex, and race) but it's the other way around this time. Yay.0 -

It's that attitude, or at least ignorance, that annoys me.
Ok put it this way...statistically black males are proportionally more likely to commit crime than white males (2002 British Crime Surveys, analysis by Clancy et al). So is it race discrimination that the police know this and stop and search proportionally more black males than white males because the police are looking 'after their business' or preventing crime? Of course it is race discrimination and there has been legislation and codes of practice to stop this prejudicial generalisation. Same principle applies.0 -
There is no excuse for rudeness but thats what the baskets are there for.
Whether it is for 1 or 22 items all items should be placed in the basket. You certainly would have something to moan if you were distracted and this one item fell into your shopping bag and you were up for shop lifting. I cant help feeing you are being a drama queen.0 -
Yes I always get the feeling i am being followed around stores as well, especially Boots. Im 24 so I suppose I am young looking! I also take my time in looking for bargains and get fed up of the security guard hoovering around the end of the isle that I'm on, sometimes if I feel like it I will play up and pick up lots of things to read the back then bob down to the lower shelves (this makes them move quicker!!) It is annoying but I guess if I owned the store I want to safe guard from thieves. Although I always think do I look like a thief? I'm usually dressed in a suit with my work badge round my neck?Just trying to be me.....0

hey folks
this morning i popped into my local poundland dont usually but i thought i would anyway as i walked in the security guard was standing by the doorr i went and got my product and as i headed towards the tills he confronted me with a basket saying "take this basket, i replied no thanks i only have one item he then stated that he would be watching me as i look suspicious, i then stated that i wanted a member of the management team i spoke to the assisstant manager who said thet the security guards personal skill needed improving, then the manager said that he didnt mean it and i must bear with him as he doesnt speak very good english, i said well that really is not my problem. and walked out of the shop,
i called customer services and said that i wanted a written apology i was told that i would not receive one from them as the security firm is a contractor and essentially he is not 'their staff' i think it is
absolutely awful i wont be shopping there again in a hurry,
id rather pay the extra and go elsewhere

Me I would have asked the mofo to step out of the store and say that to my face.
If he did he would be munching on hospital food right now.
I live in a 99.99% white area and the security guard seems to follow me and my family around because my fiance is black.
However all the theft is done by whites.
You can't freaking win.
Make a complaint to the head office, I also believe they use security guards not employed by themselves, make a complaint to them also.0 -
I worked in Debenhams years ago and it was the well dressed 'older' types who were more likely to be sucessfull shoplifters.....so the security team told me...seems to confirm that most security staff only target youngsters, thus being oblivious to the more sucessfull shoplifters!!0

Sorry but :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: !
I thought it was just me that got followed! There particularly bad in Woolworths, home and bargains, Ethal Austins, where they have security! I think if you have a pram you must look suspicious as I always get followed! Especially if you happen to be looking at anything near the door way! Mean while theres someone in the next aisle wearing a rather large mac having a free for all!0 -
Ooooo it gets me so wound up, I either stare angrily at the following security guard or mutter naughty things under my breath as I go past.
What's the key to remaining calm, cool and collected and not taking it personally and getting offended?!
