  • Good morning everyone,
Hope you don't mind me joining you. I have lurked for a long time and thought it was about time I got brave enough to participate. I just wanted to say a big thankyou to all of you for the hints and tips that I've picked up that have made a big difference to my (and OH's) life.

It's a crisp, sunny morning here in Renfrewshire - I'm so pleased that February is out of the way. And I noticed that the hyacinth on my bedroom windowsill is just starting to flower (bulb and glass vase from Poundland!). Things like this always cheer me up.

Well, I'll finish my coffee, get the housework done and then start work at 1pm (Might squeeze a bit of crochet in). OH is making a curry tonight.

Hope to get to know you better - you're a lovely bunch of people on here.

Hugs to those who are sad or feeling poorly or if you just want one.

    xx

    Morning all!

Happy birthday Nic, have a fab day! And happy birthday and congrats to anyone and anything I might've missed over the past week or so! xx

Have been MIA doing the kitchen floor, tiles do look lovely though now! Pulled up the old lino and found that the floor was soaked, leak in wall between utility and downstairs loo! Sorted that out, sorted out vermin in loft that had nibbled the water pipe! Tiled all three rooms after they'd dried, replaced water damaged kickboards and skirting, painted them only to find doors then looked mucky, so painted them then the ceiling looked off white so needed doing, then did walls! Still have lots of bits left to do and plenty of tidying and dust removal! Somewhere in there I also repained all the kitchen cupboards and sanded down the butchers block! Now I really need to think about new worktops and retiling the walls as they look tired! On the OS side we must've saved a fortune doing it ourselves, and I can now use an angle grinder, electric planer and am a whizz at tiling, well sort of anyway!!!!

Today will involve more tidying and finding home for all the stuff we moved, though ds and dd2 helped do loads yesterday after oh had helped with moving all the big stuff and replumbing the wm and dw (yeah I can do that too, but he was happy to do it so why stop him?!)

Also need to collect dog from kennels, wash him and also catch up with mount washmore - done 3 lots already! Somewhere in there I shall be making a beef stew for dinner with some sirloin that was cooked then frozen as it was a huge amount even for my lot!

Have a good day all xx

    Morning All ,

Happy Birthday Niclou!! Have a lovely day.
Well folks, I am back from Lanzarote with a bit of a tan to match! Must admit that the flight out there was more than a little hairy (genuinely did not think we were going to make it), and that I was stealing DH's tranquillisers for the flight home. Definitely will be going on a cruise if we go on a foreign holiday in the future!!!

DH has been his usual rock solid self and really looked after me - right down to getting me a straw for my sangria so I didn't have to sit up too far to drink it :D I feel a bit stronger now and a bit more ready to embark on normal life, so have to totally knuckle down and get back into OS as we're behind on our savings for buying our house (and typically I've seen one perfect for us!).

Anyway, today is Monday so it's bubble and squeak for tea. DH has a Cornish pasty for his lunch (shop bought :o must must MUST make some and freeze them!) and I have a pitta bread filled with houmous and salad. And who knows, I might actually even feel like eating it later!

I'm sure I have missed lots, but hope to catch up over the next couple of days, so congratulations and hugs where needed xx

    Morning all,
Congrats on the new grandchild Stef,
Nic -Happy Birthday, hope you have areally niceday.
(Sorry keys are sticking,DS must have been eating toast over it again)

Lovely day here, but chilly, may light woodburner, then the heating doesnt kick in.
We've had agood weekend, yesterday had a walk round the farmers market, only bought acabbage and some spuds, then went for a coffee, and had a ride round looking at houses( only from the outside) just in case ours should sell at some point.

We had roast pork & trimmings yesterday-having it again as both DS were out so plenty for tonight, makes it easy.
Need a big sort out as DS1 has finally got the last of his belongings from his ex's-she is moving out of what was their house today,so he borrowed Dh van to do a tip run etc.He has brought a sofa bed,and a corner desk unit back so he can put that up today and hopefully his room will be a bit more organised, and I can have my desk back( but I need to sort out the sewingroom/office first) Hopefully, he can now draw a line under it all and start to move on.One of his friends has split up from his girl in the last fortnight, and moved in temp with his parents-he's now found an apartment to rent.DS said if he was working they could have shared, but he's not so he can't!
    Right ,better get on

Hope everyone has a good day.x

    Morning everyone

A lovely sunny day here, but cold. Been MIA for a couple of days went to visit my DD in the Lake District on Sat and stayed over. Went to the adventure playground at the Brockholes Visitor Centre which DS2 loved, he ran off loads of energy. He had to go to school today dressed as a famous person so he has gone as David Tennant.

Today is my day off so house to sort. WM on, need to clean up kitchen and lounge and hopefully bathroom too. Going to make some Lentil and Carrot soup for lunches this week.

Have tried to catch up with the threads over the weekend, but think my grey matter is not working too well, must be my age:D. So from what I can remember.

    Hi everyone,

Happy birthday Nic, Congratulations Stef and I'm glad you had a good time lowsey, take care of yourself.

Jackie O I hope you get your heating fixed today, and your shower Diva.

Well, we visited mum in hospital at the weekend and I told her about my impending op. TBH I'm a bit fed up because she didn't seem the least bit interested, as soon as I told her she said - "I've got some nighties down there that need washing" and that was the end of the topic. It's not that I want her to be worried but I would like her to take a bit of interest. I should be used to it by now, she very rarely seems to coment on anything we do, I'm sure that's why some of my brothers rarely see mum and dad - and then she moans about them not being in touch.

I had a migraine on Saturday, probably because I was stressed, I'm missing DD a lot at the moment because we've not been able to skype so I have only had short conversations with her. She went caving and abseiling down a waterfall and did a parachute jump over the weekend. She is raving about the NZ scenery and did a 20k walk past "Mount Doom" today. I've made her promise not to do a bungee jump.

Not a lot OS going on as we were away at the weekend but I'm hoping to have DH get my sewing machie and patchwork stuff down because I want to have another go.

I've been MIA what with half term and all the stuff associated with trying to move house. I'm hoping that this week will be a little easier than last week. my PIL visited yesterday so i spent the day either cooking or washing up, at least the new house will have a dishwasher, I washed up 5 times yesterday and finally sat down at about 9.30pm. I had baked almond macaroons and bara brith on Saturday, and made scones for afternoon tea yesterday (on top of a full Sunday roast with Rhubarb crumble for pud). I've had a bad cold for the last week, and it shows no sign of going anytime yet.
I'm going to school this afternoon, partly to do some reading with the kids in Y2 and partly to talk about Wales. The school have parents from approx 20 countries (with about 90 children) so they have asked for different parents to talk about their countries so that the children have a better understanding of different cultures and countries. We also took in DS1 show and tell, which is a large model island for his dinosaurs to live on. It's taken ages to make, it has a volcano, 2 caves, cliffs and a sandy beach and was made using mod roc, paper mache and mdf. It does look pretty good but is not that easy to transport.

Csaerina - I'm really jealous that you made it to the Edinburgh quilt show. I'm going to Harrowgate in September which I really enjoy.

HUGS to all that need them!

    Afternoon all.

N9eav - hope you and Mrs N9eav made up after your argument!

MSD - good luck for shower being fixed.

Bargainbird - good luck at the dentists. You have my every sympathy as I am petrified. Burst into tears when I was told I needed my 1st filling (at age 23!).

    Nic - Happy Birthday.

Csarina - glad you had a nice anniversary.

Bemused - your holiday sounds fab. Over the last 6 months or so I have decided I would really like to go on a cruise. Shame I haven't got the funds to do so!

lowesey - glad Lanzarote was good despite the hairy plane ride and your OH looked after you. We're going in August, can't wait.

Stef - congratulations on becoming a nanna again! As for sugarpuffs at 10.30pm for an 8 year old, !!!!!!?!

JackieO -really hope your heating gets sorted soon.

Snoozer - sorry to hear about your mums attitude towards you. Mine is a bit like that towards my children, and I really need to confront her about it, just haven't quite worked up the confidence yet.

Essex-girl - well done on school allocations.

Which brings me on to my grrrrrrr of the day. Sorry, its not OS, but I am also waiting to hear about my daughters school allocation. Been trying to get on the website since 10am, but the server is "too busy". You'd think they would put some kind of contingency plan in place, as they know there is going to be huge volume of traffic on there. Also happened with the 1st lot of snow before christmas when trying to get on to see what schools were closed. Really drives me mad (as you can probably tell!!).

Apologies if I've missed anyone, hugs if anyone needs them.

I slept very poorly last night, no idea why. Heard DS get up at 01.30 for a poo (he had a bit of a dicky tummy last night, we had to stop when driving home from somewhere as he was so desperate to go he had to poo behind a hedge!). He didn't need me for any reason, but I'm such a light sleeper any noise wakes me up, then I just couldn't get back off again.

That combined with not being able to access the county council website has put me in a very bad mood today. Hopefully it will improve later!
