has anyone else noticed how many beauty ads there appears to be on TV at the moment or is it like everything else that you only notice them more when you are trying to avoid them:D

Yes, I've thought that too - it's quite annoying.

Saying that, I didn't see anything in MC that I wanted. :A Thought the MC Prix D'Excellence beauty awards were largely uninspiring. The blurb was funny/patronising though - 'The technology may be difficult to understand but, if you look in the mirror, you'll see the results' :rotfl::rotfl:

Ooo funny you should say that. Was reading SHE mag with a page on beauty buys so...
    Cheryl Cole recommending L'Oreal
    That M&S model recommending Rimmel
    Kate Winslet recommending Lancome
    And so

All people paid to endorse/advertise those products! Hello! :rotfl:Free press, pah!

Can fully recommend the Beauty Bible series though (they do a Beauty Steals one for around a tenner).
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

    Snipped

Is it really a good idea to be recommending a book of fabulous beauty bargains on this thread? !! ;)

Do we need any more encouragement to increase our stashes?
  • Hi all, Finally ventured into Boots today for the first time in ages! Did pretty well considering that there are just so so many tempting items all wanting to be bought... Managed to escape with just some mouthwash for £1.99 (how exciting!) and some Boots own cucumber facewash for £1.39.

I'd have definately spent more on the facewash if it wasn't for this challenge so that's good. I use Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish to take off make-up in the evening (which frankly I can't live without!), but wanted something cheaper to use on my face in the morning. Alhough realised after looking in Superdrug that I could have bought some Vitamin E facewash from there for only 97p as they've got a 1/2 price offer on! Still, am not going to worry about it for the sake of 42p!

Working my way nicely through some other liz earle bits that I'd been given as gift sets. Would have totally forgotten about them had it not been for this thread :)

Totally agree about all the ads for beauty products. And don't even get me started about how hard it is to read magazines without wanting to go out and buy all the product 'recommendations ' in them :o

Still not ready to spill, but I did buy the Marie Claire - couldn't resist! - and already have a Glamour subscription so got the glosser with that :T I'm tempted to buy the new 'Wedding' (I think that's what it's called, just saw it in WHSmith today :o) which has a L'Occitane hand lotion on the cover and an offer for another moisturiser inside. And I'm nowhere near to walking down an aisle anytime soon

    Finished this morning:

No 7 Time Resisting Day Cream (sample pot) - WIBA? I really liked it, so am adding it to my 'seriously considering it' list while I continue to search for my perfect skin products ;)

Getting ready for my Fabulous Full-on Friday Feel-Good Pampering Session soon, a bit late tonight, but I've had a rough week and feeling quite tired and slow
  • Anyone else think the Scandalous hair stuff free with Glamour at the moment is totally overrated? I got the 'intensely glossy' treatment (I get the mag on subscription, I hasten to add), but it smells like old lady perfume and didn't do anything for my hair except make it even squeakier! It actually felt more brittle afterwards than before. Hmmm. Anyone tried the shampoo or normal conditioner?

Because I love cinammon I was excited when I went in a Waitrose yesterday and saw the bubble bath/shower wash that a few people had mentioned on here. The smell in the bottle is amazing so I bought a shower gel. But was a bit disappointed with that too, in the shower this morning. The smell disappeared as soon as I used it and my skin felt a bit dry afterwards :(

Had my hair cut the other day and it's a good bit shorter than it was, which means I need even less shampoo now. I can't see a time this year when I'm going to need to buy more shampoo!

Thanks to that Tesco glitch the other day, neither can I?! :rotfl:

Hello I'm a new user and this is my first post. I'm very interested to see that there are various challenges to join. Is there a list of them anywhere?

I don't have anything to declare or keep track of yet apart from my weight loss so I'll put that down and keep it going while I decide what to do next.

Hello and welcome! I'm not aware of a list of challenges anywhere - your best bet will be to browse around the various boards and find the threads relating to challenges that best suit your situation. So far as this thread is concerned, we're all trying to work through stashes of toiletries to some extent or another - many of us have set a challenge to give up buying toiletries altogether for lent, unfortunately, thanks to Tesco's fantastic glitch with shapoo etc earlier this week, some of us have also failed. :o

Also finished a small sample tube of No7 Protect and perfect serum so am now going to finish the half bottle that I have (not to mention the other 24 tubes and bottles I have of various sizes). On that topic did someone mention that you are supposed to use moisturiser on top of the serum??? I was under the impression that it was a moisturiser but I recall someone saying that it wasn't.

Yes, my understanding is that you use serum, then moisturiser, before applying your makeup. I'm not sure of the science of it though I'm afraid!

:naughty: What happened to buying shiny new GHD's instead of cosmetics?

Me too:o I've decided they are good value. The moisturiser is a full size 50ml (won't be so great for those of us who decide we don't like it but must use it up having bought it) and the hair products are 100ml. Boots are selling 75ml travel sizes for the same price as the magazine. I will include them in my €40 cosmetics budget for March because I bought the magazines for the freebies.

    Glamour magazine freebie.

I got the free Simple lip balm today and I really like it.

:( I know, they'll have to wait anyway as we need a new tv (well oh does) and freeview box as we're switching over this month

I like the simple lip thing too :D

Haven't tried the Scandalous stuff yet, but I wasn't keen on the white freebie tube that was in a mag a while ago...didn't do anything for me anyway!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm falling behind again can't keep up and just popping in now, but today I went into one of my danger places for unneceesary spends, a relly good health ood shops...all the temting potions and lotionas and oils and creams that promise to make one feel and look healthy....and I ...left them there....

TBH I found that quite hard.

I'm having great fun with make up ATM, wearing things I haven't worn for a while. also, a friend dropped in her spare glamour mag (she bought for the hair stuff) and I loved having a shiny new magazine, and copied one of the make up looks out of it today, which was quite fun.

Nothing new finished up, shower gels are getting a bit depressing, seem to last for ever...........
