I rebooted and ran it again, this time I clicked clean and it went through ok.

ok, if it crashes , post back and let me know

if it finishes then go into safe mode

    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

    Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
To use the System Configuration Utility method
    • Close all open programs.
    • Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
    • The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
    • The computer restarts in Safe mode.
    • Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
and run ewido , this may take a while to do a full system scan so if need be run it tomorrow and let me know
    1. Once the scan is complete do the following:
    2. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    3. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    4. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    5. Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

Try one of the online virus scanners here. Suggest Kaspersky.

    back online now :)

around all day now on and off, only take advce on the hijackthis logs from myself , pchelpman or alfonso

I would advise removing the Winmx filesharing program from add/remove programs , i suspect this may be the cause of some of your problems

do you have McAffee on CD ??

sorry...have not had time to come back to this today..
..work had the audacity to find me something to do today !! :rotfl:

was gonna reply at around 5.30 but suffered a crash again.

I ran ewido last night under safe mode...it crashed...ran it again and it found 28 items ...mostly cookies..some adware stuff...nothing too serious.

I ran macafee ...it crashed...I ran it again and it scanned ok...nothing found

could it be the heat making it crash ??
