xp problems

Ive been getting some major crashes lately, things are getting more frequent :doh:

I cant seem to run macafee virusscan either. Everything looks like its working but crashes when it goes through the scan.

System restore wont work either. Have tried several dates where there has only been a checkpoint logged and when it has finished I get an error message saing it couldnt restore to an earlier time.

Have tried running viruscan when in safe mode....doesnt work

anyone got some maintenance tips I can try ??

Is that the same as scandisk ??
start
my computer
right click on local disk c
select properties
tools
error checking.

It starts a scandisk on re-booting. Found no problems when I did this earlier.

I tried the panda online scan a couple of weeks ago, told me I have 2 nastys on my pc and did I want to spend £18 to get rid of them.
I presumed it was a money making thing so didnt pay for it.

I've tried ad-aware and pc-bug fix as well as registry mechanic....can't find the problem.

I've just done the defrag again. macafee still wont work

Just tried this now and it crashed half way through.

..something doesn't want to be found :think: When the virus scan or spyware progs comes to it ..it seems to crash :think:

How about trying a different anti virus like AVG (as it's free)
Any spyware programs? Spybot-search and destroy, and/or Windows Defender (again both free)
have you done a windows update recently?

Browntoa will soon sort you out anyway, I've seen his logical threads before, just give him as much detail as possible.
