I am hoping this is the right post to put my question in, but please let me know if not!

I used to enter lots of competitions but then I got my job in Germany last year and havent been entering them since, thinking that I am not eligible as I no longer have a UK address, but a BFPO address. Yesterday though the competition bug bit me again as I entered a local radio station comp to win VIP tickets to Top Gear Live at the Nurburgring... and WON!!! I then entered a comp this morning for the book "Dark Origins"... and WON that too!!! My luck is certainly in so want to get entering some more :)

I have searched around on the forum but not found anything to answer my question, so hoping someone can help me!

Am I eligible to enter UK competitions with my BFPO address?

Any info is much appreciated :)

    Thanks in advance

    J

Hi - Hope this answers your question - my brother was in the RAF for 20 oddyears & BFPO (British Forces Overseas ) addresses should be treated by all members of her majesty's commonwealth (or something like that) exactly the same as any other british address. hence no extra postage etc so companies should accept this ok

    Congrats on your wins!

My only advice would be to check the T&C's - I have seen BFPO mentioned in T&C's but can't remember whether they were excluded or included as that wasn't what I was looking for at the time! lol

Even though they should be treated as any other uk postal code they may not be in comping terms - because of your actual location rather than the address, a lot of comps state Mainland only :(

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, I did a quick search but didnt find anything.
I entered the competition at this website... https://www.cutestpetcontest.com ... about 2 weeks ago, and today received an email which says my photo is in the semi-finals. I'm not going to buy the book as its WAY too expensive at $70 almost, but they say you can still have the photo printed and be in the semi's and have the chance to win upto $5,000 by sending a letter to them.
Ayways, does anyone know if its just a scam or legit??
    Thanks guys! :-)

It seems likely to be a scam. See

We got caught many years ago with something similar. People going round taking photos of kids and you got a portfolio - first grandchild - you know how it goes. MSE wasn't around then. Don't touch it.

That's pretty much what I expected! Thanks. :)
  • Just wondered if it was worthwhile submitting a postal entry for a comp when there is an option to submit answers by phone or text. Please forgive the cynic in me, but surely these comps are set up as a money making venture when they are charging up to £1/min for phone calls and £1/text? This makes me wonder if they just put a postal address as some kind of legal obligation, and then ignore any entries they get via post! If anybody can prove my theory wrong on this one, I would be grateful :)

I've won on a postal comp when a text entry was possible. Lots of people have won on online entries to the TV comps when text or phone entries are also available. Nowadays companies have to be ultra careful about not running competitions correctly.

    Hi there everyone,

I am a newbie I have read all the guides and think they are great..really have helped me Thank you.

Now is the bit where I make it evident that I am new and know jack hehe!

I have tried the various ways of searching comps to make sure I dont miss one...I come across some that look the same and my feeble mind tells me I entered it..but as advised I click the "thanks" so I can easily keep track.

What I have been doing is going to the advanced search entering E: 08/05 and then selection competitions time and then getting 12 or so pages of comp for that date... it seems pretty affective but I just wanted to check with all those that know what they are doing. Is this a good way to do things.

Also entering roughly 100 comps a day is this a good amount for a newb? hehe
