Competitions Discussion Thread Part 11

bear in mind that a lot of competitions require you to have their stuff on your wall ..if you are totally private you're not going to get anywhere with that.
Easy way set up an comping account same for twitter if privacy bothers you that much.
Personally I can't see the worry since we control what's on there we can delete or now show as much of it as we like...except in the case of kids who could be targets for creepy folk. I have my phone number on mine, i have yet to have a single problem with FB or any social networking site...it's mainly media garbage making us paranoid for no real reason IMO...if the same was applied to cars no-one would drive. "Man KILLED in CAR!!!" ....happens a lot more often than anything untoward on FB and it doesn't put anyone off because people see the likelyhood of harm and that they also have control of most situations driving just like FB etc.
I wasn't around much yesterday but since the folk here got more MSE twitter names it seemed like a MSE hive to me ..or a big chat room.
Never seen so many people screaming out for free sex toys  :rotfl::rotfl:
I've won a few comps and all I have on mine is my location. I find that most comps PM you if you've won to get details. Also because it's just my comping FB I can post about comps freely without clogging up friends walls etc.Jan-Sept: Prizes worth £2248

You don't really need to as long as you're entered as none have entry limits like normal comps that dQ you...in fact the more you tweet the more most places like it.
Anything regular like daily prizes...I have a notepad file with tweets to copy paste each day or a few times a day..and notes about the comp maybe.
A lot are ReTweets anyway..just find the page of the comp, click follow, and the click retweet and it's done.
I notice a lot of people entering US and other foreign comps, I'm not sure that's always wise but it's worth checking the location just in case the prize is going to be a problem if they aren't UK based. It's usually on their page ...or unlike most comps, you can just tweet them and ask and get a reply pretty fast.
t
quite a few comps actually have a limit on them... so tech' thats not true ... many are 1 RT per hour or 1 Per day ... and more then that can disqualify you ... ive also noticed a lot of the comps u guys are now all madly RT'ing are US only onesXX
I can only please one person a day.... Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either!!very greatful for almost everything i read on MSE (except for the nasties!)0 -
Just a thought Timmers, but I wonder if you asked the BGs, maybe you could have a seperate twitter thread in the Reg comps section? I know that we are allowed no chat/misc thread on the main comps board, but sometimes we can have other ones in the other sections. That way at least people could subscribe if they wanted to get twitter names.
I just clicked through from your links, and twitter still completely confuddles me, lol..
Yeah, I may try that..kind of hoped they would do that reading what I posted really.
If twitter seems confusing try tweetdeck, it's much easier software...a little more like chat software and full of MSErs live to help you out most of the time
tweet is anything you write...seen by anyone following you.
retweet is anything you see from someone you follow that you pass on with one click so your followers can see it too (they may not be following the original tweeter)
@someones name...goes direct to them but can be seen by your followers...DM (direct messages are same but can't be seen by anyone but the person it's to)
anything with # is flagged to the pesron no matter who says it...so if #yourname is mentioned by someone it will be seen by you as a mention.
Twitter is too simple really...makes it look like something is missing when you really have it sussed. lol Most of the time it's just a click or two...click to follow someone, then click to retweet what they said. Job done. Wait for direct message to say you won.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It's also worth mentioning that a lot of people have had their twitter accounts suspended or filtered out from the search so that comp entries can't be seen if their tweets are all too similar - ie going on once a day to retweet the same comps over and over again. Or constantly retweeting the same competition to try and win a big prize.
Not trying to put anyone off from using it, just check the rules so you don't get banned or disqualified, or find you've won a comp that was for US residents only!Al Mac Appreciation Society (AMAS) member # 6½

Is anyone else having trouble with hotmail today? I haven't been able to receive any messages since 11.30. I also know that messages I have sent haven't been received yet either. This is using both Windows Live Messenger and by accessing my inbox directly on the hotmail website. I know a few people have mentioned similar problems on twitter over the past few days, but it doesn't seem to be a mass problem. Just wondering if anyone knew any more?0

I'm @Pumpkin2k9
I'm only bumbling around on Twitter too, although I did find Post #188 here by Kisto useful.

I think that it would be an excellent idea to have a sticky, or even a sub forum for Twitter comps as it seems to be the way to go.
I haven't got any followers yet, I only use Twitter for comping and not much at that.
Thanks Timmers for your idea.0 -

I wanted to email myself a link to something using my hotmail email address (I'm at work at the moment and wanted to view it later at home). It appears in my sent items, but not in my inbox, so I guess they have got problems.0 -

I am also having Hotmail problems today. Normally I get around 10-20 junk emails every hour but I have not had a single email come through for 5 hours now. So dont worry you are not the only one!.0
